At Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS), we provide a wide range of services to the individuals who reside, work, and visit our area. Covering more than 1,000 square miles, which includes urban and rural communities, with a population of approximately 1,060,000, encompassing parts of the National Forest and the Peak District National Park. With over 900 employees and 31 strategically located fire stations scattered throughout the region, we are always prepared to respond, protect, and educate.

The role of Head of Property is a recent addition within DFRS, offering an exciting opportunity to collaborate directly with the Area Manager Service Delivery Support and the Services Strategic Leadership Team. The individual appointed will spearhead the Service's approach to asset management and sustainability, encompassing the development and execution of strategies and enhancement programs. A key focus for the appointee will be ensuring the Service adheres to legislation compliance.

Position Requirements

  • Display a dedication to sustainability and responsible asset management. Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is deeply invested in making a positive environmental impact while delivering exceptional value for money.
  • Lead the design and implementation of the Service's Asset Management and Environmental Strategies.
  • Oversee and strategize the execution of the Services major improvements program, which includes supervising project budgets, as well as the specification, design, tendering, and negotiation of various contracts. Also responsible for managing the maintenance and enhancement of the Service's built estate.
  • Assume a leading role in ensuring thorough contractual review and act as the duty holder to ensure compliance with legislation, all while supporting the implementation of ongoing health and safety-related compliance.
  • Support the development and advocacy of the Service's Environmental Strategy and contribute to identifying and securing external funding opportunities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Possession of a professional qualification in a construction/property related discipline, indicating full membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Chartered Institute of Building, Royal Institute of British Architects, or equivalent, in addition to a related construction/property degree.
  • Demonstrated evidence of continuous management and personal development.

Occasional travel will be necessary, and a pool car will be provided for this purpose.

The standard workweek comprises 37 hours, with the possibility of occasional work beyond usual office hours.
