The Role:

Within the Data and Analytics team, our mission is to be the trusted data partner for the entire Smart DCC organisation who enables the business to perform at its best by providing reporting, insights, and intelligence that facilitates data-driven decision making.

To deliver on this mission it is critical the Data & Analytics team strategy is aligned to the wider business objectives and goals. The Senior Data Strategy and Planning Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping the data landscape within our organisation and ensuring business objective alignment. As a key member of the team, you will be at the forefront of driving our data strategy forward and ensuring that our data capabilities can effectively deal with the opportunities and challenges of the business today whilst fortifying our future data vision.

Our team's success is intricately linked to your skill in collaboration, your capacity to gather and comprehend requirements, and your talent in translating these needs into data projects and initiatives that provide substantial value to our organisation and its stakeholders. To succeed in this role, you should possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with a strategic data-centric mindset.

Additionally, your role will be to oversee the timely delivery of data projects, optimising resource utilisation within the team, and ensuring we grasp future resource needs. Your strategic and business acumen will guide us in maximising the value we derive from our data assets.

What you'll be doing:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to define and continuously improve the company's data strategy by conducting regular assessments of how well the data strategy aligns with the evolving business goals and market trends.
  • Create roadmaps for the implementation of strategic data initiatives and projects.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with various departments, and senior stakeholders to understand their specific data needs and translating business needs into actionable data strategies and projects for the wider Data & Analytics Team.
  • Understand the needs and requirements of emerging business programmes so effective proposals can be put forward for how the Data & Analytics team's capabilities can be utilised to deliver the program.

Resource Management:

  • Evaluate the skills and capabilities of the data team to ensure alignment with the strategic objectives and create plans for developing capabilities where required.
  • Develop and implement resource allocation plans to meet current project demands while maintaining flexibility for future requirements.
  • Monitor resource utilization, identify bottlenecks, and take proactive measures to address resource constraints by owning the Data & Analytics headcount budget.

Agile Project Management:

  • Implement agile methodologies approaches like Scrum or Kanban for data project management across the Data & Analytics team that provide iterative deliverables and allow for frequent feedback from customers.
  • Lead any project management/project delivery resource that works in the Data and Analytics team.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve data processes, workflows, and methodologies.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging data technologies.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the Data & Analytics team.

Cost optimisation:

  • Understand the tooling and infrastructure utilised by the team and regular review opportunities for cost optimisation or savings that do not jeopardise our strategic objectives.

  • The ability to think critically and strategically, aligning data initiatives with broader business objectives and long-term goals.
  • The capacity to adapt to changing business requirements and market dynamics, ensuring the data strategy remains agile and responsive.
  • A deep understanding of data management, analytics, and data governance principles to make informed decisions and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies, especially agile frameworks, to ensure data projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Skill in optimizing resource utilization within the data team and forecasting future resource requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in gathering and comprehending stakeholder requirements and translating them into actionable data strategies and projects.
  • Leadership capabilities to provide guidance and mentorship to the wider Data and Analytics team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, analyse root causes, and propose effective solutions.
  • To lead within a matrix environment with the ability to influence, shape and drive strategic and improvement initiatives.
  • A strong collaborator with excellent relationship development and management skills with the confidence to effectively challenge others where appropriate.
  • Ability to manage a complex set of stakeholder interactions, both internal and external, and resolving conflicting priorities.
  • Attention to detail and an analytical ability to help propose solutions to problems and drive meaningful actions.
  • Strong initiative and drive, self-motivated with an aptitude to work well under pressure and with low supervision.
