Are you experienced in working with hearing impaired children and young people?

Do you have BSL level 2/3 or the equivalent signing knowlege and skills?

Would you welcome the opportunity to be working within a well established Sensory Team, working directly with hearing impaired children and young people, in homes, settings, schools and with families supporting the development of communication skills using British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Suported English (SSE) and Makaton?

We are looking to appoint for May 2023 a highly motivated and experienced bilingual communication instructor.

Yous will need to have a good understanding of how to support children and young people with a hearing impairment to develop language (signed and spoken) and be willing to work across all ages and abilities.

You will work inpartnership with with Teacher's off the Deaf, schools, settings and families to help develop the communication skills of children and young people with a hearing impairment across Nottingham City.

You will need to have good BSL, oral and written communication skills.

You will also need to understand the barriers to communication that children and young people with a hearing impiarment face and how these may be overcome.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of language development and and strategies for supporting children and young people with a hearing impairment
- the ability to model good langauge BSL, SSE and spoken
- knowledge and understanding of Deaf Culture

Applications are welcome from applicants who:

  • have experience of working with children and young people and good BSL skills who may not have BSL level
  • understand how to support children and young people with a hearing impairment to develop effective communication but may not have qualification in working with children.
