Cameron Vale is a small independent Prep School based just off the King's Road, also including The Chelsea Nursery for babies from 6 months to pre-school aged 4.


We are looking for a lovely, helpful lunchtime assistant to make our lunch sittings run more smoothly and take responsibility for the set-up, serving, clearing and washing up.

Reporting to the Business Manager, the working hours are
11am to 2.30pm during term-time and INSET days.

  • Salary: £12 per hour
Main Responsibilities and Duties

We believe the lunchtime assistant plays a very important role within the school and the contribution they make to care and welfare of the children, is valued very highly.

Children who are happy and well cared for at lunch time start the afternoons refreshed and ready to learn.

The main aspects of this role are:

  • Setting up the Hall tables and benches for the lunch sittings
  • Bringing up the necessary crockery, cutlery, serve ware, lunch and setting the tables
  • Plating up the lunch for each sitting and service
  • Helping the children and supervising children eating their lunch: encouraging children to eat their food, behaving politely and respecting others within the dining areas
  • Oversee the plate clearing at the end of each sitting
  • Wipe the tables clean ready for the next group
  • At the end of the lunch sittings, clean the tables and benches and put them away
  • Empty and rinse the lunch containers ready for collection
  • Wash and put away the cutlery and crockery from lunch ready for the next day
Packed Lunch Arrangements

  • Lunch boxes are kept in the Hall, lunch boxes should be kept on the floor during lunch
  • When in the classroom the children will be asked to sit down at a table with their lunchbox.
  • Children are expected to eat their main courses first before any snacks or fruit
  • Children should talk quietly among those on their table, taking care not to eat with their mouths full.
  • Any uneaten food should be left in the child's lunchbox so that parents can see what they have or have not eaten
  • All children should be encouraged to eat their meal, but not forced
  • Please report persistent lunches of poor nutritional value to the class teacher
  • Swapping foods between children should be firmly discouraged
  • Children should remain seated during lunchtime and not allowed to wander unnecessarily around the classroom
Main Responsibilities and Duties

  • Managing the children's behaviour, where necessary
  • Ensuring children walk around the school building in a calm and safe manner
  • Monitoring the use of the loos to ensure they are being used appropriately.
  • Making sure all pupils respect themselves and each other, and dealing with any misdemeanours in accordance with the school's Behaviour Policy
  • Ensuring the hall is cleared up after use
  • Informing the class teacher of any incidents or accidents that have occurred during lunch

  • Dependable and punctual, with the ability to manage time effectively
  • Food hygiene training (can be provided)
  • Manual handling training (can be provided)
  • Experience of working with children
  • Ability to speak and communicate in English
