About the Team and what they do:

The team has a proven track record in delivering power conversion projects and integrating new technology into the UK railway. This role involves leading a team that is redefining what is achievable in UK railway electrification.



Your role and responsibilities:



The Senior Design Engineer (Secondary Design) will lead in delivering secondary systems, control, and protection designs, while supporting the development of junior colleagues. They will guide the optimal development of secondary design to meet environmental, safety, cost, and program objectives.



Reporting to the Principal Power Conversion Engineer, the successful candidate will oversee the team's high-quality engineering output from concept to service entry. They will be responsible for planning and engineering projects for High Voltage Converter Stations while collaborating with different disciplines.



Main Responsibilities:

  • Technical responsibility for secondary systems, control & protection design up to 400kV
  • Verification authority of all Secondary designs
  • Co-ordination with clients, project management, and other interfaces
  • Conducting customer training and support activities
  • Participating in research and development for future products
  • Ensuring design risk assessments and compliance with Company policies
  • Fostering teamwork and guiding junior team members

In addition, the role may include the responsibilities of a Contractors Appointed Engineer (CRE) as needed.



Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • Extensive experience in secondary electrical designs in the Railway industry
  • Familiarity with Transmission, Distribution, and Railway standards & technologies
  • Good knowledge of automation systems and substation automation engineering
  • Previous management experience and strong communication skills
  • Flexibility and openness to new technologies
