We are currently seeking to expand our team with the addition of a phlebotomist. We offer flexible scheduling options regarding the number of working hours, shift timings, and choice among our five locations.


In this role, you will be an integral part of our nursing team, which includes Practice Nurses, Nurse Associates, and Health Care Assistants.

We hold regular team meetings and provide in-house training to support your professional development.

Drivers licence/own transport essential.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Accountable for:

Effective and clinically safe delivery of basic phlebotomy duties in accordance with practice protocols and within competency levels as defined below.


JOB SUMMARY:


To assist in patient care and practice related duties as directed by and under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following practice procedures and policies.

  • Good standard of appearance as befits a role dealing with members of the public, patients and colleagues
Qualifications and experience

  • Good level of general education
  • Willing to undertake care certificate training
  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist
  • Holds care certificate or equivalent qualification
Knowledge and skills

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Evidence of IT literacy
  • Evidence of team working skills and ability to build relationships with colleagues and patients
  • Ability to respect patient and practice confidentiality
  • Evidence of working in a busy clinical environment
  • Awareness of clinical governance issues in primary care

  • Record information and activities undertaken with the patient and carers in an accurate and timely fashion using computer or manual systems as appropriate.
  • Take the necessary precautions when transmitting information.
  • Maintain confidentiality for information relating to patients, relatives, staff and the practice.
  • Review and process data using accurate national codes and templates in order to ensure easy and accurate retrieval of data for patient care, monitoring and audit purposes.

Communication

  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communication.
  • Liaise and maintain good working relationships with all members of the practice team.
  • Maintain communication and liaise with other disciplines across primary, secondary and tertiary care services as necessary.

Health and safety

  • Monitor work areas and practice to ensure they are safe and free from hazards and conform to health, safety and security legislation, practice policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs is undertaken.
  • Undertake mandatory and statutory training as required by the practice.

  • Understand own role and scope within the practice and identify how to develop over time.
  • Work as an effective and responsible team member, supporting others across the practice.
  • Accept delegation from other clinicians, prioritise own workload and ensure effective timemanagement strategies are embedded in own practice.
