Are you highly motivated with a desire to improve
outcomes for children and young people with a Vision Impairment? An
exciting opportunity has arisen for two peripatetic Specialist Practitioners
for children with a Vision Impairment with North Yorkshire Council's Vision
Team (Inclusive Education Service).

Post 1:
Permanent days per week)

***
Post 2: Fixed term until September 2024, days
per week)

Both posts are Term Time Only, plus ten days
(pro-rata), with flexible working available.

Specialist Practitioners work directly
with children and young people (age 0-25 years) with a wide range of vision
impairments across the county. They offer support in homes, Early Years
settings and mainstream and special schools to promote the inclusion,
participation and achievement of children and young people with a vision
impairment.

Working with Teachers of VI, a Habilitation
Specialist and Resource Technician, your role will involve delivering and
assessing short and longer-term targeted programmes to support children and
young people to gain the skills they need to access the curriculum and wider
world and develop their independence.

We are seeking someone with:

  • Excellent
organisational skills who has the ability to manage a peripatetic caseload, plan
their time effectively and work without supervision.

  • Relevant recent
experience working in an educational setting with children with VI, and/or
other Special Educational Needs (SEND)

  • An understanding
of the impact of vision loss on learning and development

  • An understanding
of and ability to teach a wide range of skills, including Early Years play, communication
skills, braille, IT, and other assistive technologies as well as indoor and
outdoor mobility and independence skills.

  • An understanding
of classroom
approaches to support children and young people with VI

  • Excellent
communication skills for collaborative working with families, schools and other
professionals, and good IT skills.

  • Enthusiasm, selfmotivation
and a solution-focused attitude.

  • Exemplary inclusive practice and
knowledge of SEND processes within education

  • A sound knowledge
of the SEND Code of Practice and other relevant legislation.

  • A current driver's
license, access to a car and willingness to travel to children and young people
across North Yorkshire.
