We have an exciting job opportunity available at our Bristol location. We are currently looking for a talented Technical Author for a 12-month fixed-term contract to join our successful and rapidly growing global company. As a Technical Author, you will be responsible for researching and analyzing complex technical information to create documents that help customers use specific equipment safely and efficiently or enhance their understanding of a particular technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce, develop, and maintain clear and concise technical documentation to support our high-tech product range.
  • Research, analyze, and comprehend the technology and applications for which documentation will be created.
  • Collaborate with engineers and managers to address any technical inquiries.
  • Create and supply necessary photographs or illustrations.
  • Work with subject-matter experts, including colleagues from Sales and Marketing, to develop documentation for project launches and customer support.
  • Test and revise written material with users.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation systems, including version control, editing, and accuracy, staying updated on the latest technology and products.
  • Ensure technical information is organized, managed, and published according to deadlines.
  • Upload master files to the server and coordinate translations into various languages.
  • Direct and oversee external providers, such as printers and translators, to maintain product integrity.
  • Demonstrate outstanding technical writing skills.
  • Excellent technical understanding, including comprehension of complex product functions and performance.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Technical authoring qualification (ISCT, NVQ, Diploma, etc.), degree, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in MadCap Flare.
  • Knowledge of PC-based applications for desktop publishing and photo editing, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel.
  • Background in semiconductor, electro-mechanical, or scientific sector is preferable.
  • Previous experience in a technical author role.

  • Strong technical writing abilities and understanding of product functions.
  • Effective proofreading skills.
  • Capability to research and analyze complex technical information.
  • Adherence to company documentation procedures and style.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and design practices.
  • Experience in presenting information for training, installation, and maintenance purposes.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and technical discussion skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing staff.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, systematic, and thorough approach.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
