RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Setsup mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three
- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.

  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, firstrun part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production documents.
  • To liaise with internal departments and assist in production
  • Communicating with project team, clients and subcontractors
  • Undertake any other task, as requested by line manager
  • Works under mínimal supervision and has good communication
  • Ensure that the company safety, quality and environmental systems are adhered to.

EXPERIENCE

  • Time served machinist who has qualified from a recognised training body (NVQ Level 3).
  • As a minimum in manual machining, Especially Centre lathe turning. Experience in milling and drilling and associated operations would be an advantage.
  • Relevant experience ideally gained from working in a factory or technical environment
  • A good working knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9001 and other applicable standards

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

  • Practical interest in Engineering
  • Good attention to detail and able to work as a team player, performing to a high standard.
  • The ability to use a computer to access work instructions, time keeping, perform data entry and complete online training is required.
  • Machinist must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • They will also need to lift and manipulate items while sitting or standing. Sitting, standing, lifting, walking, and pushing carts is required.
  • Machinist are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
