As the Small Molecule Platform Lead, you will take on a senior leadership role in the MSAT organisation, focusing specifically on the advancement of Small Molecule platform technologies.

This requires the definition and execution of the technology strategies for MSAT, ensuring all necessary capabilities are in place, planned and aligned to the needs of GSK's product pipeline and future ambitions.

This will require regular and continuous partnership with senior leaders across the GSK organisation, including those in R&D, Strategy, Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply Chain.


As this position is global in it's scope, you will work both in, and atop, matrix teams across multiple sites around the world - up to circa 20 global GSK locations and external CMO plants.

Your remit includes all small molecule platforms, particularly oral solid dose (OSD), drug substance manufacture and liquids, creams, and ointments.

There is a growing platform area of oligonucleotides, offering a unique opportunity to own the platform and technology development for complex and novel manufacturing approaches.

This is also a line leadership position, and you will therefore line manage, support, and develop a team of 4-5 experienced technical professionals in this position.

In this role you will:

  • Provide global technical leadership for the advancement of small molecule platform technologies, collaborating with the wider MSAT LT and MSAT site teams to ensure the necessary technical capabilities are in place to meet the needs of the evolving business.
  • Define the specific platform strategies, working in collaboration with partners across the GSK business. You will articulate the required capabilities to deliver on the key priorities of GSC and the evolving new product pipeline, influencing both GSC and R&D business leaders including Strategy, Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing Supply Chain.
  • As a member of the MSAT Small Molecule Leadership Team, you will need to operate at an enterprise level on behalf of the MSAT organisation particularly leading on small molecule platform technologies.
  • Provide strategic recommendations across the small molecule portfolio, including R&D, in support of the evolving product portfolio, including where a platform approach is required for new technologies, or where current established technologies need to evolve.
  • Be the single point of contact within the MSAT organisation for small molecule platform technologies across the Supply Chain business, R&D organisation, External Manufacturing, and the respective sites, connecting with other teams in MSAT to ensure the appropriate SME / specialist support is secured and engaged. This may require technical leadership to key network strategy projects

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in a related scientific discipline such as chemical engineering, chemistry, pharmacy, or pharmaceutical engineering
  • Significant experience leading technical teams across multiple geographical areas.
  • In depth knowledge of small molecule manufacturing platforms and technology evolutions.
  • Significant experience of scaleup, technical transfer and process change management / improvement, with knowledge in current Good Manufacturing Practice and US/EU/ROW regulations.
  • Extensive experience in structured technical troubleshooting, RCA and CAPA effectiveness.
  • Extensive experience and indepth scientific/technical knowledge of pharmaceutical products, whether in process development, product development, scaleup, or operations.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience, able to articulate success in communication, ambitious goal setting and achieving, priority management and highlevel influencing.
