  • The teamOur finance team are committed to providing an efficient and accurate service to our legal advisors and to other support functions. At the centre of this is ensuring that the client and office accounts are kept up to date and invoices are produced accurately and in a timely manner.
  • The roleAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Credit Control Apprentice to join our Finance team in Northampton on a fixed term contract. You will be working as part of a local team and a larger firm wide department, supplying an efficient and accurate credit management service.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone to broaden their knowledge and gain new skills.

You will need to have excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, flexibility, able to manage your own workload within tight deadlines.


  • Main responsibilities
  • Provide copy invoices and statements both automatic and manual Excel statements
  • Create reminder letters
  • Process writeoffs
  • Taking card payments either over the phone or redirect them to one of our 24hr payment services
  • Monitoring the Credit Management mailbox to respond or resolve any issues raised. This will include clients, legal advisers, members of the Credit Management team and other members of the Finance Directorate
  • Maintain a small debtors ledger liaising with partners and legal advisers as well as clients
  • Producing debtors reports sending to legal advisers on a weekly basis
This list is not exhaustive, and duties include various other tasks as directed by the Lead Credit Controller

  • Skills and qualifications
  • Positive with can do attitude
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrate that they understand how to make a call effective in obtaining prompt payment
  • Good level of IT literacy i.e., Excel, Outlook etc
  • Have the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to adapt and maintain high standards
  • Organised with a neat and tidy approach to working practices
  • Reliability, friendly and helpful approach
  • Have a flexible approach to working practices
  • Ability to work as part of a small local team but also the bigger Finance team.

Progression & prospects


One of the benefits of working for a wider Finance team is that opportunities in other departments such as Financial Accounting, Finance Administration, Financial Planning & Analysis and Legal Cashiering are made available to internal staff on a regular basis.

Alternatively, you could climb the Credit Management ladder and take on roles such as Lead Credit Controller.
