Job Summary

Working at the Port of Dover you will provide professional support to a diverse business on all aspects of Health and Safety. Collaborating with the wider SHEQ (health, safety,environment and quality) department to ensure policy, processes and tools are aligned across all functions and specialities within the business. You will drive forward compliance with all safety legislation and initiatives,to support the business to develop a robust and interdependent safety culture where everyone takes personal responsibility. Provide timely advice and solutions on safety issues associated with port operations and developments along with demonstrating the corporate values and safety commitments daily, driving a high standard of safety performance through enabling the port to promote its safety achievements, and to provide line management of the safety team and maintain and improve the safety management systems.

Skills and Qualifications


• A belief that all accidents are preventable


• A desire to ensure everyone goes home safe everyday


• Extensive experience of safety management (+5 years)


• Experience in safety culture change and application of behavioural safety programmes


• Detailed knowledge of safety legislation


• Previous experience of liaising with internal and external stakeholders


• Experience of chairing meetings and leading safety committee structures


• Previous experience of leading audits


• Proficient in leading incident investigations


• Effective project management - you are responsible for coordinating and delivering a variety of projects, campaigns and strategies


• Ability to work to short and changing deadlines and in stressful situations and to prioritise complex workloads whilst meeting deadlines


• Demonstrable leadership skills


• Strong communication and people management skills


• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification or professional membership
