NUH are home to the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre, the Nottingham Children's Hospital and in partnership with the University of Nottingham we host a Biomedical Research Centre carrying out vital research into hearing, digestive diseases, respiratory, musculoskeletal disease, mental health and imaging.

As a teaching hospital, they are instrumental in the education and training of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

They have strong relationships with universities across the East Midlands, including the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Loughborough University.

Nottingham University Hospitals have ambitious plans to improve their hospitals and the services they deliver for our patients.

As well as the redevelopment of Nottingham City Hospital and the QMC, they are building a new NHS rehabilitation facility on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough, due to open next year.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
To have attained the knowledge and skills to undertake the following highly specialist clinical perfusion services:

  • Cardiopulmonary bypass for elective and emergency procedures.
  • Indepth experience and knowledge of a variety of myocardial preservation strategies. Direct control of delivery and dose of high dose potassium into the coronary arteries.
  • Develop alternative additional practices and strategies as the procedure develops.
  • Indepth experience and knowledge of a variety of blood conservation techniques.
  • Homeostasis: blood gas / chemistry control and haemodialysis.
  • Anticoagulation control and regulation, for example titration of heparin doses.
  • To administer drugs, according to local policy and as necessitated by the clinical situation.
  • Management of cardiac/ventricular assist devices, for long/short term therapy.
  • Highly specialist nonroutine bypass procedures for example, giant cerebral aneurysm, renal and thoracic tumours.
  • Identification and analysis of equipment failure/malfunction, involving autonomous and rapid implementation of a solution.
  • Specialist knowledge of devices, analysers and monitoring systems, related to cardiopulmonary therapy.
  • 2 years post accreditation experience of wide range of highly specialist perfusion techniques
  • Current registration with College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists
  • PG Dip Clinical Perfusion Sciences.
  • Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's behavioural standards
  • Able to communicate highly complex information at all levels.
  • Demonstrate highly specialist knowledge required for development of individual care plans based on best practice.
  • Able to manage and prioritise workload.
  • Able to contribute to service development
  • Excellent manual dexterity, coordination and sensory skills.
  • Advanced keyboard skills
  • Fully participate in the oncall rota.
  • Reside within 30 min response time radius for on call purposes
In addition to experience, all Qualified roles will be required to provide evidence of
