Head Chef | Hankelow | Full Time | £40,000 plus uncapped performance related bonus
The White Lion has been part of the Hankelow community for over 200 years.

It prides itself on being a meeting place for family, friends and neighbours, so, it seems fitting that when the pub closed its doors in 2016, it was the community who stepped in.

The pub represents the passion and determination of its community.

More than 40 local people have contributed to the project, from investing in its future to managing the build and design of the pub.

Desired qualifications

  • NVQ Level
  • Level 1,2 and 3 Food Safety
  • Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace Award
  • Awareness of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) and chemical safety
  • Awareness of manual handling techniques
  • Certification in hospitality or culinary

About you

  • Previous experience as a Chef within a highquality gastro pub or restaurants
  • Creativity and superior culinary skills to create exceptional dishes for a menu
  • Experience and passion for working with fresh, locally sourced produce
  • The ability to constantly perform well in a highpressure and fastpaced environment
  • Excellent organisational skills to ensure the smooth running of a kitchen
  • Indepth knowledge of all the sections in a kitchen to efficiently manage operations
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate a kitchen team
  • Solid financial acumen, including the ability to manage a budget
  • Computer literacy, including a working knowledge of relevant software programs, such as a pointofsale system and Microsoft Office
  • Business acumen to make sound decisions regarding areas such as menu prices and kitchen processes
  • High attention to detail

What will your role as a Head Chef look like?

  • Controlling and directing the food preparation process and supporting activities
  • Constructing menus with new or existing culinary creations, ensuring the variety and quality of the servings
  • Test dishes and gain approval before implementation
  • To support the recruitment of employees, ensuring the kitchen is staffed during peak times
  • Create a highperforming culture through the training and development of staff
  • Ensuring all new employees complete a successful induction plan and performance is monitored closely until successful probation has been achieved
  • Handling staff issues, such as sick leave and managing performance and behavioural issues where required
  • Ensuring that customers receive excellent service
  • Ensuring that kitchen staff adhere to quality, hygiene and cleanliness standards
  • Staying uptodate with culinary trends and kitchen processes
  • Dealing with suppliers and ensuring that they supply quality goods at affordable prices
  • Managing the inventory and ordering stock as needed
  • Overseeing the maintenance of kitchen equipment and organising repairs when needed with the General & Maintenance manager
  • Dealing with customer feedback and providing adequate solutions to customer complaints
  • Minimise wastage to achieve gross profit percentage in line with a set budget
  • To support the delivery of KPIs
  • To support General Manager with implementing internal policies and procedures
  • To support with organising and promoting social events
