ABOUT THE ROLE:


Created circa 2 years ago, SuperTech is the cluster body for technology disrupting the professional and financial services sector in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands (WM).

This means key sectors such as fintech, insurtech, proptech, lawtech and associated services technologies, collectively referred to as 'proftech'.

These sectors are some of the fastest growing and most influential in the UK and the West Midlands has real competitive advantage in our existing business base that is thriving.


SuperTech has a significant leadership role, operating at a regional and national level to support the economic growth of proftech in the UK, and in doing so, ensure that Birmingham/wider West Midlands both contributes towards and benefits from this outcome.

Our role is one of championing the sectors, showcasing market leading firms to build a compelling narrative that attracts top companies and top talent.

We work with partners and stakeholders to address industry challenges and garner collective effort that make our region the best place possible to base a proftech business.


A core part of the work is engaging with the ecosystem, building relationships with various interested parties and different stakeholders.

For example, offers of help to support growth of the focused sectors; connecting and brokering introductions; meeting with prospective inward investors considering Birmingham/ wider West Midlands.

In addition, there is an untapped community of individuals keen to learn more and engage that are currently not provided for within the SuperTech activities.

This position is to provide additional resource into the team to help scale the SuperTech offering and reach.


Birmingham City University is the accountable body for SuperTech since 1st July 2023 and is the employer of all roles working within the SuperTech cluster body.


ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Community Engagement Lead will engage with the wider ecosystem to plan and deliver a range of community activities appropriate to the interests of the primary sector verticals of fintech, proptech and lawtech that is engaging for individuals, businesses and adds to the strength of the Birmingham/wider West Midlands proposition as a nationally relevant hub

Additional duties will include:

  • To engage with ecosystem and codeliver a programme of community activities appropriate to the interests of the primary sector verticals of fintech, proptech and lawtech that is engaging for individuals, businesses and adds to the strength of the Birmingham/ wider West Midlands proposition.
  • Oversee ecosystem relationships and liaise with partners chosen from the region to deliver the community activity plan.
  • Develop the existing online community in partnership with marcomms function to be more engaged audience.
  • To understand our contribution to the regional ecosystem and support development of content that SuperTech is uniquely placed to lead.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A good education such as a first degree and professional qualifications to meet role
    requirements or similar recognised qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of building communities (e.g., networks, events programmes and/or online communities) or equivalent.
  • Experience of adhering to an external tone of voice and brand guidelines.
  • Experience in a role with external relationship management requirements.
  • Working knowledge of at least one of the sectors serviced by SuperTech e.g., fintech; proptech; lawtech and/ or business professional and financial services sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels including the confidence to talk to and advise internal/external clients and/or partners.
