Overview:

PepsiCo is looking for R&D Associate Scientist to join on 12 months FTC role in Leicester R&D site.


The Beaumont Park Physical Science team is part of Beaumont Park Measurement Science, and deals with physical testing including rheology, powder rheology, texture analysis, thermal analysis and microscopy.

The R&D Associate Scientist role is responsible for liaising with R&D partners to provide support and technical insight on physical testing involving raw ingredients, intermediate products and finished products.


In this role you will lead the Physical Sciences team, plan and prioritise the workload, train and support junior team members, and ensure the equipment maintain the highest standards.

The role also regularly presents metrics, updates and strategy to senior leaders. The position reports to the R&D Beaumont Park R&D Senior Laboratory Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with relevant partners within R&D to get understanding of projects' objectives, challenges, test requirements, priority and timeline. Deliver technical insights to relevant partners on a casebycase basis.
  • Lead workflow on projects/validation and ensure key deliverables are met with the relevant teams.
  • Perform Physical testing across the PepsiCo product portfolio, ranging from raw ingredients to finished products, understanding the processes, and be able to develop and refine analytical methods.
  • Provide data interpretation and reporting of experimental results. Presenting findings to scientific and nonscientific audience.
  • Lead weekly team meetings to assess priorities, assign workload and discuss issues, challenges or opportunities.
  • Share Physical Science metrics and updates with senior leaders.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures for analytical methods and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues relating to laboratory analysis on both routine and complex tests, carrying out maintenance as required. Arrange service visits for relevant equipment as necessary.
  • Verify equipment is regularly calibrated and arrange maintenance schedule for the lab on instrumentation associated with relevant analyses.
  • Ensure that all required consumables stock is managed and ordered in a timely manner to enable smooth flow of workload.
  • Train junior team members on the different Physical Science instruments where required.
  • Work with the team and the Laboratory Manager to ensure compliance to Quality Management System, as well as ISO17025 requirements and accreditation body requirements.
  • Demonstrate adherence to the site Health & Safety and Good Laboratory Practice policies and procedures. Support specific lab activities such as COSHH assessments, permit writers and others as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemical/Food/Material Engineering or Material Science with at least 2 years industrial experience.
  • Rheology, Texture Profile Analysis, Rapid Viscosity Analysis;
  • Thermal Analysis (DSC);
  • Microscopy;
  • Particle Size.
  • Great communicator, selfstarter, selfmotivated, flexible and adaptable.
  • Good knowledge of GLP/Laboratory quality standards (e.g. ISO17025).
  • Ability to interpret and analyse complex multivariate data, make business recommendations, and effectively communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders to aid decision making.
  • Ability to create and implement practical solutions to test ideas or improve equipment and demonstrate a high degree to attention to details.
