Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Abcam Plc Full time
Job Description

To support our Antibody Development Platform, we now have an opening for a 12-month fixed contract for a Senior Manager of Research Area (RA) Scientists.

This role is critical for the management of New Product Development (NPD) antibody pipelines in Cambridge; leading a small team responsible for end-to-end design and management of our RabMab projects and supporting the set up of successful and sustainable product development workstreams across multiple cross-functional teams. You will be able to perfectly blend a strong scientific and technical skillset with project or pipeline management experience to drive excellence in product development.

The job is based at our Cambridge (UK) site, although you will also work closely with our colleagues in the US and China. This is a full-time role, desk based.

Job responsibilities:

  • Manage and co-ordinate activities of the RA scientists team in Cambridge for in-house products:
    • Lead and support RA scientist team with design and scoping of RabMAb projects at the target level; including full target review, identification of appropriate screening cascades/materials and immunogen requests. Ensure scoping activities are aligned with global teams.
    • Ensure antibody target selection, scoping and development remain in-line with abcam's platform and product TPPs (where applicable), and minimum validation standards to the point of publication.
    • Ensure RA team works in close collaboration with scientists, SMEs and other relevant stakeholders, pulling in relevant knowledge where required in order to deliver consistent and high-quality data reviews, troubleshooting and data-led decisions in product development.
    • Provide proactive line management for the team, guiding constructive 1-2-1 conversations, performance reviews and personal development conversations to ensure team engagement and alignment with abcam's values.
    • Support continuous improvements in product development in collaboration with global colleagues.
  • Organize and monitor the New Product Development (NPD) pipeline in close collaboration with the Director of Antibody Development in Cambridge.
  • Contribute to reports on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and pipeline progress, highlighting key risks for delivery and mitigation strategies as required. Ensure key stakeholders are kept informed.
  • Champion development and maintenance of outsourcing and vendor relationships on behalf of the Antibody Development team in Cambridge:
    • Hold 3rd parties to account for deliverables, quality, and budget.
    • Partner with global counterparts, AWERB, and QA teams to establish and align activities related to immunization and animal welfare, supporting audit and inspections of 3rd party facilities as required.
Qualifications

You have a PhD or significant research experience in Life Sciences. Direct experience in Antibody Development is essential; this may come from development of research-use only products or diagnostic/therapeutic discovery and development.

Strong project management or pipeline management experience is essential. You will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of project management, and reporting.

It would be an advantage if you have previous leadership experience. You have excellent organizational skills, with outstanding attention to detail, and you are undaunted by working to deadlines.

You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where effective communication is key, as this role involves dealing with external suppliers, internal stakeholders and requires collaboration across multiple countries.
