Student Health Visitor

(Specialist Community Public Health Nurse in Training)


Every day is different working as a Health Visitor (Specialist Community Public health Nurse) with various responsibilities which include: home visits/virtual consultations for health need assessments, promoting uptake of immunization, conducting child developmental and health reviews, running support groups for parents and working in collaboration with a range of local children agencies such as Early Years, Children Centers and Third Sector Organisations.

A fully funded and salaried training places are available now (Agenda for Change band 5-maximum will be mid-point).

The Health Visitor career path offers lots of opportunities to progress, with salaries ranging from Agenda for Change bands 6 to 8.


Applications will be accepted until 7th April,2024 for training programme beginning in September 2024 with Kings College London and London South Bank University.

As a GSTT SCPHN student, you will be allocated a Specialist Practice Teacher and additional support from the Practice Development Team.


You will play a fundamental role in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, promoting child development through parental support, safeguarding children, preventing social exclusion, and tackling important public health issues.


With established Agile Working System, Health Visitors have the opportunity to work flexibly in the community and are a crucial part of the healthcare team.

It is a diverse role which involves being part of a wider team that provides you with support as you work to improve the health of local families.

Job Summary


The post of Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Sponsorship is a development post building on existing knowledge, skills and competencies as a qualified nurse/midwife to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a recordable/registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.


The programme will enable SCPHN students to learn and work towards gaining the standards of proficiency for entry into the NMC register as Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN).

In collaboration with the Universities, we have the responsibility to provide adequate learning environment and create opportunities which will enable the student to develop knowledge, skills and competencies to take on the role of a qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurse at the end of the programme.

Gaining the required knowledge, skills and competence will enable the registered SCPHN to exercise higher levels of judgment, discretion and decision
