YES is a youth charity offering support and advice on a range of issues including housing and homelessness, pregnancy and young parenting, mental health counselling and wellbeing.

YES offers its support to all young people between the ages of 11-25 across North East Essex.

Job description:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Housing, Health & Wellbeing Officer for the Colchester area.

We are looking to recruit someone who cares about supporting young people between the ages of 16 and 25 to obtain or maintain safe and secure living arrangements whilst achieving their aspirations and goals.

The position is for 20 hours per week and is based in our office at 9 Trinity Street, Colchester.


You will be joining an enthusiastic and dedicated team who are passionate about helping young people reach their potential and achieve a secure future.


Your role will include:

  • Working with young people who are experiencing/at risk of homelessness by offering support, advice, and signposting. Helping them gain secure, appropriate tenancies and to sustain those tenancies.
  • Engaging with young people in supported housing accommodation to ensure appropriate and safe placement
  • Supporting young refugees with their housing and homelessness issues
  • Helping young people to understand the benefit system and their entitlements
  • Encouraging young people to take positive steps in looking after their mental health and wellbeing. This will include signposting to our inhouse counselling provision, where appropriate, and promoting engagement with local organisations and services

You will be able to

  • Manage an active and complex case load working on a 121 engagement level
  • Liaise and form relationships with the large number of external partners YES works with
  • Know about or have an interest in learning about housing law for young people and the Children's Act Post 1
  • Have an understanding of current mental health issues

Salary
£13,867 for 20 hours per week (£26,000 full time equivalent)
