Core Automation Engineer

An outstanding opportunity has opened for a Core Automation Engineer to join our fantastic Flutter UK&I Infrastructure Tribe

The Core Automation team is fully responsible for managing and maintaining the current Flutter UK&I environment as well as other technologies within the infrastructure portfolio. This is the perfect role for someone who has experience in DevOps and would like to further their exposure to private and public cloud technologies.

Your role in 'better'

You will be involved in multiple initiatives involving our public and private clouds, while also developing and supporting our native compute environment. The successful candidate will be someone who can learn from the current members of the team while also bringing their own skills and knowledge with them. You should be proficient in continuous delivery of products and services into both production and non-production environments, and be familiar with a variety of Linux distributions and automation tools. This role requires communication & technical skills along with the ability to deal with all levels of the organisation. Someone who has. To be successful in this role we need someone who is customer-centric, with a collaborative approach to everything they do within the team.

Day to day duties will include...

Support, maintain and improve the Flutter UKI private cloud running on OpenStack. Support, maintain and improve the Flutter UKI native environment consisting of multiple technologies running on multiple types of hardware spread across a number of data centres. Triage incidents, problems and risks impacting the products and services the team are responsible for. Maintain and monitor capacity within our private cloud environment. Help build, update and support our image building process across both public and private clouds. Maintain source code and repositories while reviewing team members code update requests. Adhere to the principal of our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) approach. Write, review and maintain appropriate user documentation. Liaise with 3rd Party vendors and partners for support and maintenance issues while using the same channels to discuss product and feature developments. Actively seeks and implements automation solutions to reduce reliance on manual processes. Adhere to our Flutter UKI ways of working using Agile.

By having excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Strong analytical skills needed to identify technical dependencies, risks, issues and constraints. By having a technical understanding of multiple infrastructure domains (OpenStack, Linux, Networking, AWS, framework, automation, tooling and server hardware). Ability to communicate on infrastructure subject matter Willing to listen and learn while also prepared to contribute Be a team player who has Operational Excellence as a core value in all their work

Required Experience

Knowledge of how DevOps operates or have worked in a Dev Ops role previously. Experience of working on various operating systems and distros. Proven track record of being involved in delivering on software & infrastructure projects in a matrix environment. Knowledge or have experience of source control management (Git, GitHub) and CI/CD Pipelines. Worked with monitoring and alert tooling (PagerDuty, Grafana and Splunk). An understanding of networking and pipeline delivery across virtualised and non-virtualised environments. Experience working with either or both private\public cloud computing environments. Have worked previously with server hardware. Exposure to Incident, change, problem, and risk management processes.
