Job Description
We have an exciting opening at CIO for a Senior Data Architect. As part of the CIO Data Team, you will oversee and enhance all facets of DIO's data architecture, establishing an enterprise-level data architecture capability. Your responsibilities also include leading the Data Quality and Data Architecture teams by providing essential guidance and support for their ongoing success. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders across the organization, your role aims to:
- Continuously enhance DIO's data architecture to support the business intelligence initiatives and meet the organization's information needs.
- Drive the adoption of master data management principles throughout DIO to ensure the success of the 'locations as a service' initiative.
- Assist senior management in transitioning to cloud infrastructure, updating processes and documentation while effectively managing associated risks.
Person Specification
Key requirements include:
- Proven experience in Data Management, including Data Quality, within large organizations.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think laterally.
- Capability to articulate technical concepts in a digestible manner for non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Data Warehouse environments.
Essential technical skills:
- Proficiency in complex multi-layered SQL.
- Expertise in Data Modelling (Information Modelling, UML, or similar).
- Skilled in Data Analysis.
- Exposure to ETL tools (Pentaho or equivalent).
Desirable technical skills:
- Experience with Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Oracle, or similar).
- Relevant Certifications (e.g., TOGAF, Cloud) - although not mandatory.
Technical Skills Assessment
During the selection process, we will evaluate your proficiency in these technical competencies:
- Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework - Data Architect: data analysis and synthesis.

Benefits
In addition to a salary of £43,080, the Ministry of Defence contributes £11,631 towards your membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Other perks include:

Relocation expenses are not covered for this role. New recruits to the Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will undergo a six-month probation period. Kindly note that travel expenses for interview visits will not be reimbursed.
This role qualifies for a Digital Skills Allowance, potentially increasing the maximum annual salary to £58,660. Eligibility for this allowance will be assessed based on the 4 core technical skills during the interview and reviewed annually as per departmental policies.
As the Department evaluates all pay-related allowances, there may be changes affecting the allowances associated with this role. Transitioning to the Ministry of Defence from another employer will disqualify you from accessing childcare vouchers. While you won't be eligible for this specific scheme, other government support options, such as Tax-Free Childcare, may be available. Assess your eligibility accordingly.
