We are seeking a dynamic Consultant Psychiatrist for our Older Adult in-patient ward, Ellington Ward, based in the Harrow Mental Health Centre, Northwick Park Hospital.

The successful candidate will have excellent leadership qualities.

They will be highly motivated and passionate about delivering high quality care for older adults with acute and chronic psychiatric condition.

Together with the ward manager, the post-holder will provide overall clinical leadership for the ward multidisciplinary team as well as direct clinical assessments, consultations, risk assessments and care plans.

The post-holder will also be expected to lead on, in partnership with the modern matron, quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation projects and will be encouraged to lead on research.

Clinical supervision of trainees and specialty doctors working with the team
Regular clinical liaison with older adult community mental health teams

The Harrow Older Adult services also include the Harrow Older Adult CMHT, the older adult Home treatment Team and Memory service.

All based in Bentley House, Harrow Wealdstone.

In addition, the Northwick Park Mental Health Unit has an ECT suite, two adult wards, the home treatment team, the psychiatric liaison service and Harrow management team.

Consultant and junior doctor offices and are based within the management suite This ensure that the ward staff feel part of the broader Harrow mental service.

Ellington is an 18-bed older adults inpatient ward.

The inpatient care is delivered by an integrated multi-disciplinary team with a shared sense of ownership for the ward environment as well as the clinical services provided.

Provide senior medical responsibility for the assessment and management of patients on the ward
Oversight of and contribution to robust care planning, risk assessment and risk management processes.
Support recruitment and ensure optimal retention of team members and uphold morale
Ensure good service quality and performance
Ensure training needs of psychiatry trainees and medical students are met as well as supporting training of other junior clinical staff
Provide senior medical responsibility for the assessment and management of patients on the ward
Oversight of and contribution to robust care planning, risk assessment and risk management processes.
Support recruitment and ensure optimal retention of team members and uphold morale
Ensure good service quality and performanc

Medical Degree
MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications

Experience of assessing and treating patients in acute and community psychiatric settings
Evidence of interest in older adult Mental Health
Excellent clinical skills using biopsycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Knowledge of recent developments and drug advances in perinatal psychiatry
Knowledge of key issues associated with the development of Acute older Adult Health Services
Knowledge of NHS planning and commissioning processes
Experience in older adult Mental Health Services Other relevant experience (e.g. specific psychological therapies)

Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
