Senior Public Affairs Manager

London, SE1 (hybrid working, minimum 2 days per week in the office)

You will be leading public affairs and policy-based projects to influence stakeholders in Westminster, local authorities and third parties to persuade them to advocate for the benefits of smart meters.

Working as part of a talented and creative team, you will help to deliver a dynamic public affairs programme which will bring the importance of smart meters to life, galvanise support and get opinion formers across the country behind smart meters.

You will undertake the day-to-day management of the public affairs team; this includes the line management of individuals at the Manager and Officer level.

You will coordinate a front foot and proactive public affairs agenda, identifying opportunities to create advocates in the professional stakeholder community, and managing political risk.

To support this, you will work in collaboration with the Head of Policy and Public Affairs to manage the public affairs budget.

You will provide strategic advice to the Head of Policy and Public Affairs on public affairs impacts and approaches.

Advocate to opinion formers in Westminster, Edinburgh and Cardiff, local authorities, businesses and the third sector for the smart meter roll-out and Smart Energy GB's policy positions
Support the Head of Public Affairs and Policy in advising the Chief Executive, Board and Directors on Smart Energy GB's policy and public affairs programme and the organisation's responses to relevant political events
Project manage Smart Energy GB's public affairs activities, including our outreach and advocacy to opinion-forming audiences, Smart Energy GB events for opinion-forming audiences and our presence at external events held by third parties, proactive policy interventions and reactive responses
Develop and deliver online and offline resources for use by elected representatives and other opinion-formers
Keep abreast of relevant policy developments, alerting colleagues and formulating proactive responses where appropriate
Lead the Public Affairs team to co-ordinate outreach and messages for GB-wide political audiences
Maintain systems for reporting on the impact of the policy and public affairs programme to the Chief Executive and Board directors
Provide professional leadership to more junior members of the team
Lead work streams on creating advocacy for the smart future and other policy projects
Deputise for the Head of Policy & Public Affairs as necessary
Support the Head of Policy and Public Affairs in the management of the public affairs budget
The role will involve a certain amount of travel within Great Britain and occasional evening and weekend working
Experience in high-profile policy and public affairs programmes
Excellent drafting skills and quality control throughout written work
