Job Title: Staff Nurse - Band 5 Pre-Assessment

Our Friendly Pre-Assessment unit at Derriford Hospital is seeking Registered Nurses/ODPs to support the peri-operative assessment of patients before their surgery. Join us in an exciting project to enhance our Pre-operative assessment process. The team provides a One-Stop Shop service, ensuring quality-focused and safe assessments for all patients.

Main Duties:

  • Assess pre-operative patients to identify any potential surgery delays or risks.
  • Review ECGs and blood tests, organizing care based on results.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments covering physical, psychological, emotional, and social aspects.
  • Advise patients on health promotion and illness prevention.
  • Maintain accurate patient records while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Engage with patients, explain procedures, and establish effective communication channels with internal and external parties.
  • Supervise junior staff and participate in research and service development.

Requirements:

Knowledge & Experience

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical care.
  • Evidence of recent CPD and application of evidence-based practice.

Abilities & Aptitude

  • Effective communication and influencing skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to lead a team.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner with NMC/HCPC registration.
  • Good knowledge of surgical specialties and relevant educational courses.
