Cytology Screener

Please note this post is part time / fixed-term (7.5 hours per week)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Cytology Screener, to join the Cytology Team, based at University Hospital Monklands.

The role:

The post holder will also participate in internal quality control of cervical cytology preparations and participate in the preparation of Cervical Cytology samples ,to produce slides ready for microscopic assessment.

The Cytology Screener will receive and prepare cervical screening samples for HPV testing on automated pre-analytical equipment and HPV testing platforms.

Knowledge, training and / or / experience required to do the job:

• Must be fully qualified in cytology screening and holds the certificate of competence or equivalent.
• Possession of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme (NHSCSP) Certificate in Cervical Cytology or equivalent.
• Demonstrable experience in cervical cytology with minimum 5000 slides screened
• Successful completion of a mandatory external 4 week training course including practical and written exit exam.
• Maintenance of skills as described in UK and SCSP guidelines and participation in interpretive EQA and circulating slide scheme. This includes attendance at a mandatory update course every 2 years.
• Must develop and improve your scientific expertise which may be via CPD, seminars and in house meetings within an appraisal programme. A portfolio of relevant development achieved must be maintained
