Job responsibilities

The followingare the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, onoccasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent uponfactors such as workload and staffing levels:

a.Phlebotomy

b.Supportthe practice nurse with health promotion programmes.

c.Carryout baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperatureand pulse rate, recording findings accurately

d.Carryout BMI checks as directed.

e.Actas a chaperone as required.

f.Whentrained, administer flu vaccinations

g.Carryout ECGs as requested.

h.Ensurespecimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.

Ensure all clinicalrooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Healthcare qualification or working towards gaining equivalent level Phlebotomy certification

Desirable

Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate - as detailed within GP Mythbuster No 57 - HCAs in General Practice

Experience

Essential

Experience of working with the general public Experience of working in a healthcare setting

Experience of working in a primary care environment
