About the Company:

nThis global integrated consultancy is hiring a new fixed-term contract position to support its growing Trade and Industrial Policy Practice in London.

The successful candidate will work across a range of international clients, including some of the most prestigious companies in life sciences, manufacturing, consumer goods, retail, and services sectors.

The successful candidate will split their time between a 12-month project and servicing its retained client base.

The project consists of supporting the senior leadership of a large multinational firm with operations in the US, Europe and Asia as it navigates and mitigates against political, policy and regulatory risks to its business model.

The role also foresees project management and coordination support, working closely with their senior leadership team.


The role's retained responsibilities will focus on tracking, understanding and explaining highly political and topical policy themes impacting goods and services trade, including how future compliance frameworks impact international businesses in a range of areas, including environmental and broader sustainability, economic security and industrial policy.


The successful candidate will provide support and practical strategic advice to clients on the trade-related policy developments and evolving compliance frameworks in the US, EU, and UK, and the political pressures for reforming them.

It is an opportunity to further develop expertise at the interface between business, politics and the system of international trade rules.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


nLeading projects and/or retainer workstreams within the trade & industrial policy practice to support clients in responding to policy and regulatory risks, including by proactively identifying how they can support clients and their objectives beyond the successful execution of client requests.nTracking and analysis of political, policy and regulatory developments relevant for clients, with a particular focus on economic security and industrial policy in the UK, US, EU, and EU member states.nIdentifying the implications from these policy and regulatory developments for clients' cross border supply chains, business models, market access and investment plans.nSupport internal project coordinators, helping to manage multiple workstreams, tasks and deliverables across different teams and offices.nPresenting information clearly and compellingly in writing and through the visualisation of relevant data, including by drafting slide decks on PowerPoint.nSupporting the development and implementation of policymaker engagement by Global Counsel and its clients (e.g., interviews).nSupporting and leading business development by identifying potential clients, contributing to and leading pitch processes, and proposing and leading business development outreach campaigns.nBuilding and maintain a network of contacts among policymakers and wider stakeholders at senior levels.


SKILLS AND PROFILEnMasters degree level qualification in economics, political science, international political economy or a related discipline;nExcellent written English and comfort in using core software for data interpretation and visualisation, including Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint;n3-5 years' experience providing advice on trade and industrial policy issues in government, policy institutions, think tanks, consultancies and/or companies' in-house policy team;nDemonstrated experience in trade and industrial policy and transatlantic policymaking processes.

Additional experience and/or interest in EU, WTO, China, US and other third-market policymaking is a plus;nRobust understanding of trade-related legislation and regimes alongside the above-mentioned policy areas.

Additional areas of expertise and/or interest in export controls and foreign investment screening mechanisms are a plus;nStrong interest in the practical application of the above concepts and legal frameworks to key economic sectors, including life sciences/pharmaceuticals, food and drink, tech and semiconductors, automotives, chemicals and services;nA motivated self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
