PROJECT PLANNING ENGINEER

The Role


Our client has been successfully providing Third Party Inspection and Quality Control services for a major UK Defence project for several years, with activities taking place both at the construction site and within the UK-wide supply chain.

As the projectmoves into its final phases of installation and commissioning our client has identified additional opportunities for our client to expand its service delivery for the final two years of the project.

To deliver these additional requirements, together with ourexisting commitments to the project, we now need to establish, deliver and monitor for the remaining life of the project a robust, costed resource schedule built, bottom-up, from a significant volume of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) provided by the client.

In order to deliver this we have identified the requirement for an experienced project engineer, with excellent project planning skills and experience, to:

  • Create an appropriate Work Breakdown Structure to capture all the client ITPs and match to an existing (with some additions where necessary) simplistic Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS).
  • Work with the current Project Manager and delivery team to estimate the resources and timescales required to complete each ITP.
  • Build a robust, resourced and costed schedule.
  • Monitor delivery of that schedule, with actual cost and completion data, and reforecast on a monthly basis.
  • Provide accurate, shortterm (month ahead) forecast data against the CBS to feed the contract invoicing process.


We expect that an initial period of working from our Manchester office will be required, during which time the schedule is to be built and peer reviewed, followed by predominantly on-site (Berkshire) working thereafter.

We require an experienced project engineer with the following key skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Experience in a project engineer role for a major construction, fit-out and commissioning project, ideally gained in the nuclear, defence or rail sector.
  • Demonstrable project planning and monitoring skills with relevant, recent experience of working with Primavera (P6). Experience using Microsoft Project will also be advantageous.
  • Excellent reporting skills, both written and verbal (presentations to progress meetings).
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team, based at different locations.
  • Ability to design and deliver processes for the accurate capture and reporting of progress data.
  • Must be a UK national, ideally with a current Security Cleared status, or the ability to achieve that status in the shortterm.
