About us

Hillingdon is London's second largest borough, and we're proud of our commitment of 'Putting our residents first', ensuring they're at the heart of everything we do

Taking our role of Corporate Parenting seriously, we seek to ensure the next generation of children can grow up in healthy, secure environments, with the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Being a Foster carer is one of the most under-rated and rewarding careers currently available, enabling you to make a positive difference and transform the life of a young person.

The work of a foster parent is crucial in giving vulnerable children a chance at life

In return we will offer you:

  • Induction programme for new foster carers
  • A generous allowance (from £377.24 to £447.74 per week, depending on the age of the child)
  • Startup equipment (where applicable)
  • Monthly visits from experienced supervising social workers and family support staff
  • Close working with our dedicated team of clinical psychologists
  • 24hour telephone support
  • Access to fostering support groups
  • An extensive range of learning, development, and training opportunities
What does a Foster Carer do at Hillingdon?

Growing up without this stability can affect children in a variety of ways.

From their ability to form relationships to how they process and regulate emotions, with all areas of their development being impacted.

Foster carers not only provide a safe place for children to live, but they are also role models, teachers, and parents rolled into one.

With the right support of a foster family, foster children learn to overcome trust issues, build their confidence and flourish into successful young adults.

Like most parenting roles, there will be highlights and a huge level of satisfaction, along with some challenging moments.

Some of the main duties of our foster carers include:

  • To provide a caring, secure, and stable family environment
  • To meet all the child's daytoday individual needs
  • To promote contact for the child with their family wherever possible
  • To help prepare the child to move back to their family or onto a permanent placement through longterm fostering or adoption
  • To facilitate the school run and support the child's education
  • To be aspirational for the child supporting both educational and extracurricular opportunities that will enrich their future.
About you

If you have a spare bedroom, or have experience looking after children, we want to hear from you We prepare you, train you and support you throughout your career.

Our Foster carers come from wide ranging backgrounds, communities, and circumstances - there is no 'perfect foster carer profile'.

All we ask is that you have the time, commitment, and tenacity to provide a safe, secure, and loving environment for our foster children.

We have a number of Foster caring opportunities which include:

  • Longterm fostering (until the child/ young person reaches age 18)

The only requirements we need you to meet are:

  • Are you committed to caring for someone else's child?
  • Do you have the time and space in your life to offer a home to a child in need?
  • Are you aged 21yearsold and above?
  • Do you agree to completing various checks, including DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and medical?

  • Are you in good general health?
  • Do you have a good spoken and written English language?
