An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a highly motivated and innovative team at the NIHR Clinical Research Network's National Coordinating Centre.

The Programme Support Coordinator will support the delivery of the NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN) Transition and Transformation Programme.

This programme will shape the new NIHR RDN and deliver innovative change whilst building on the success of the NIHR Clinical Research Network.


NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH AND CARE RESEARCH**The NIHR Clinical Research Network is a key element of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), which is funded through the Department of Health and Social Care to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. The NIHR is a large, multi-faceted and nationally distributed organisation. Together, NIHR people, facilities and systems represent the most integrated clinical research system in the world, driving research from bench to bedside for the benefit of patients and the economy.

Since its establishment, the NIHR has transformed research in the NHS and social care.

It has increased the volume of applied health and care research for the benefit of patients and the public, driven faster translation of basic science discoveries into tangible benefits for patients and the economy, and developed and supported the people who conduct and contribute to applied health research.

From 2024, the NIHR Clinical Research Network will become the NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN). The 15 current Local Clinical Research Networks (LCRNs) will be realigned to map onto the NHS England regions. Coverage of the whole of England will be delivered through 12 NIHR Regional Research Delivery Networks (RRDN).

This is an exciting opportunity to help coordinate and support a programme of work ahead of the change in 2024.


This role would suit someone with experience of successfully coordinating and delivering time and content sensitive information in a controlled/restricted environment.


The Programme Support Coordinator will be a proactive, logical thinker, have excellent interpersonal skills to establish effective relationships with NIHR CRNCC colleagues and stakeholders across the NIHR ecosystem, and be comfortable with managing multiple and competing demands.

The role will also require excellent organisation, administration and communication skills.

The Programme Support Coordinator will report to the Associate Directors for RRDN Transition.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post.

What does the role entail?
As a Programme Support Coordinator, your main duties will include:

  • Providing senior administrative support to the programme team and support the Programme Manager with programme planning and the monitoring of programme milestones and deliverables
  • Stakeholder management (including senior stakeholders such as NHS Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Chief Operating Officers (COOs), the CRN Executive team, and LCRN Leadership Teams;
  • Coordinating and communicating regional transition activities (e.g meetings and/or events);
  • Supporting the monitoring for, coordination of, and responding to enquiries from a range of stakeholders across the NIHR CRN and the wider Health and Care system.
  • Support and assist with the coordination of 12 Transition Leads, who are senior leaders across England whose roles is to lead and facilitate the establishment of the RRDN
