DIO Data Protection Advisor

This position in the Business Management pillar focuses on ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) across DIO. The role involves serving as the primary contact for GDPR-related queries, advising on data protection impact assessments (DPIA) and subject access requests (SAR), and collaborating with departmental peers and authorities to implement and uphold GDPR standards within DIO.

  • Promoting adherence to Data Protection policy and central guidance within DIO.
  • Providing policy advice to Information Asset Owners and Senior Information Risk Owners.
  • Collaborating with Data Protection Officers and other professionals to ensure accurate advice.
  • Advising on the production and review of DPIAs, including complex processing activities.
  • Assisting Local Data Protection Advisors with screening assessments.
  • Working with MODs Commercial Team to ensure compliance of Delivery Partners with data processing standards.
  • Supporting the investigation of data breaches and providing guidance on resolution and prevention.
  • Representing DIO at the Data Protection Steering Group and relevant workshops.
  • Offering advice and support on recording Information Assets, particularly Records of Processing Activities (ROPA).
  • Conducting data protection assurance activities, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions.
  • Providing operational support for Data Subject Requests, and managing responses to Subject Access Requests occasionally.
  • Supporting the Data Protection Officers team in addressing data protection complaints.

The PDPA offers guidance to a network of Local Data Protection Advisors but does not have line management responsibilities. While managed by the Business Management Lead, the PDPA is professionally overseen by the MoDs Data Protection Officer.

  • Assisting in processing subject access requests and staying informed on data protection laws.
  • Networking with data protection peers and policy staff.
  • Monitoring legal changes affecting data protection and ensuring compliance.
  • Liaising with regulatory bodies on data processing matters.
Business & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Engaging with key DIO business teams for effective personal data handling.
  • Participating in business analysis and improving data management processes.
