About the role

We are seeking an Investment Associate to join our Investment Team. This is a role designed to support the recruitment and signing of the best teams in Web3 to join one of Outlier's accelerator programs. You will play a pivotal role in assessing the accelerator's deal flow pipeline, meeting different founders and builders, conducting due diligence, and engaging in early stage ventures.

You will be working closely with the Investment Manager, Program Manager as well as subject matter experts across various departments (Product and Engineering, Fundraising, Token Economies, NFT Strategy teams) to strengthen the investment team, manage the program dealflow, optimize the investment process as well as develop investment thesis in conjunction with senior management. This is a people-facing role in which leveraging access to your wider Web 3 network to recruit and invest in the best Web3 builders is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diligence and Evaluation: Manage and support comprehensive diligence on accelerator applicants, including operational and relevant financial diligence. Obtain a robust view of the company's people, products, technologies, go-to-market plan, competitive position, addressable market, and other key drivers relevant to making an investment decision.
  • Thesis development: Support the Investment Manager in the development of thesis for specific thematics each quarter, in collaboration with the research lead, program managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Recruitment process management: Oversee the overall process and logistics related to recruiting activities. This includes preparation of investment materials, running investment committees, as well as supporting the Investment Manager in contract negotiation and signing of teams.
  • Founder relations: Manage overall relationships and interactions with prospective founders, ensuring candidates have a clear understanding of Outlier's unique value proposition. Ensure seamless interactions and communication throughout the full recruitment cycle.
  • Investment strategy: Develop and maintain a succinct and comprehensive investment point of view on categories and companies, justifying investments to deliver outsized returns.
  • On-chain activity: Maintain a clear understanding of disruptive market technology trends, enabling the development of market maps and targeted outreach to potential investment opportunities.
  • Market research: Support the Investment Manager with market research activities, ensuring the team develops core competencies across sectors within Web3 (DeFi, gaming, infrastructure, NFTs, etc.).
We are a close-knit, highly collaborative team and we are looking for someone who has:
  • 1-3 years of experience in early, fast-paced environments within technology, startups, entrepreneurship and venture capital with 1+ years specifically in Web3.
  • Desire to be part of and manage a fast-growing team with the creativity to think out-of-the-box about new opportunities and other ways to develop and grow our business. Must be able to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with our early-stage partners, with an ability to self-manage in an unstructured environment
  • A self-starter. Comfortable with a minimal amount of direction and high expectations
  • A firm understanding and facility with Web3, crypto, and blockchain concepts and ecosystems
  • Ability to synthesize complex information, form a sharp point of view, and communicate it clearly and succinctly to different audiences
  • Understand the value of scalable systems and processes
  • Desire and proven ability to learn new domains and technologies quickly
  • Comfortable building conviction based on both qualitative and quantitative data points
  • Highly motivated, with the ability to deal with the routine tasks as well as the more interesting aspects of the role
  • Problem solver with high interpersonal skills
Package

Package is subject to relevant experience. It will bias towards performance related bonuses, including the opportunity to invest directly into token projects on the same terms as the Outlier Ventures partnership
