Guildford, Surrey, United Kingdom Climate17 Full time

Sustainability Manager - ESG & Reporting
Climate17 is proud to work alongside an infamous restaurant brand who are known for their delicious, world-famous recipes. They are now planning to be a more responsible business by aiming to achieve Net Zero Carbon.

They are looking for an experienced SustainabilityManager to be part of the team that will help them to get there.

The Role
You will shape, own, and deliver compliance monitoring and reporting for the company.

You will play a key part in managing ESG compliance and horizon scanning, which is essential to protect the brand and their reputation.

Critically, you will also support thedelivery of a Sustainability Strategy, so that they can track and measure progress and identify opportunities for improvement.

An analytical mind, attention to detail, and being comfortable with data and spreadsheets are a must.

You will need to be creative and enthusiastic about transforming raw data into engaging and insightful visualisations and reports to encourage progress.

Beingable to influence and engage a diverse group of stakeholders will be an important skill.

You will also represent the business from time to time at forums and meetings with NGOs and trade bodies and coordinate the internal stakeholders in this space too.

As such the ability to communicate effectively, with impact, both verbally and in writing isessential.
Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, you will be part of a small, but growing sustainability team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage compliance with ESG legislation as a business entity (e.g., SECR, ESOS, EPR).
  • Work in partnership with the Operations Team to manage compliance within restaurants.
  • Keep track of forthcoming legislation and prepare the business to adapt to changes through steering groups and action planning.
  • Gather data to monitor and report on progress against UK&I Sustainability Strategy.
  • Develop content ideas for sustainability communications both for internal and external audiences.
  • Support the delivery of Net Zero Roadmap and manage external reporting into the Zero Carbon Forum and Climate Action Roadmap.
  • Support the delivery of food waste strategy and manage external reporting into WRAP Courtauld 2030 and the UK Food Waste Reduction Roadmap.
  • Respond to nonfinancial reporting requirements from investors and franchisees (e.g., climate risks, sustainability issues).
  • Coordinate the Yum Global reporting requirements and other external reporting requirements.
  • Liaise with external & internal stakeholders including franchise partner.
  • Attend meetings, events, and seminars, representing the business externally to build relationships and enhance reputation with a range of stakeholdersincluding NGOs, trade associations, etc. feeding all relevant insight and information back to the business.
  • Support the broader business strategy, providing timely and relevant content that will inform their approach across internal and external communications channels.

Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in an environment or sustainability discipline.
  • 25 years' experience implementing environment/sustainability programmes inhouse or in a consultancy role.
  • Detailed knowledge of the UK and Ireland regulatory framework and experience implementing legal requirements.
  • Proficient at managing sustainability reporting to demonstrate progress against KPIs and targets.
  • Experience in implementing/managing ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Experience of the food & drink sector would be helpful.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly to bring data to life and influence decisions.
  • Experience briefing senior business leaders.
Our client is looking for someone who is really enthusiastic and passionate about what they do.
This is a role that requires the ability to make an impact and influence diverse stakeholders. With the management team, Team Members in restaurants, and franchisees. You will need gravitas and credibility.

You'll also need to be a pragmatist; the process ofmaking change at such scale will take time and there will undoubtedly be bumps along the road.

This is not a role for someone who's a purist, who won't compromise.
It sounds trite but you'll also really need to be a people person.

You'll need to be able to develop relationships across all functions of the business, and all levels, to find the right answers, or to get the help you need to deliver a project.

You'll understand the balance between the external pressures and demands of stakeholders - and the internal pressures of a commercial business.
