Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic and highly skilled MSKphysiotherapist (Band 7) to join our friendly, supportive and successful MSKteam in County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

This post will cover Adult Physiotherapy Department at UniversityHospital North Durham and Shotley Bridge Community Hospital.

As part of the established MSK team you will provide expertclinical intervention for these patients while acting as a source of expertisewithin the Physiotherapy team.

The iMSK service comprises of Upper & Lower limb,Spinal, A&E, Hand, Womens Health and Rheumatology ESPs, Junior, Senior, FCPand Advanced Physiotherapists providing a robust training and supervisionframework for all staff.

The post holder has opportunities to developclinical and leadership skills working alongside other collegues and ESPphysiotherapists. CPD opportunities are offered which can be tailored to yourneeds.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a team providing a comprehensiveservice within our musculoskeletal pathways.

You will have the responsibility for the assessment andmanagement of musculoskeletal disorders. The caseload, which includes patientswith long-term conditions, comorbidities and multi-factorial needs are referredfrom both primary and secondary care.

You will be expected to contribute to service evaluation,audit and provide day to day clinical leadership to our senior and juniorphysiotherapists.

You will be expected to provide training, education,mentorship and appraisal for staff and students. As part of the role you willcontribute to the development of professional practice and the transformationand evaluation of service, supporting research and innovation across theservice.

You will work closely with and be supported by your peers,FCP and ESP Practitioners, the Governance and Operational team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This post has a nominal base within the Adult Physiotherapy OutpatientsDepartment at University North Durham and Shotley Bridge Community Hospitalsand will report directly to the Operational Lead of MSK services North Durham.

The post holder will have a high level of clinical knowledgeand skills to provide assessment and treatment of patients who have a widerange of musculoskeletal conditions. You will deliver individual physiotherapytreatment programmes based upon sound knowledge of evidence based practice andclinical reasoning. The post holder will work as part of the MSK IntegratedMusculoskeletal Team and will have access to specialist advice from ESP staff.The post holder will accept clinical responsibility of a designated caseloadand organise effectively with regards to clinical priorities and use of time.

You will haveopportunity to be involved with quality improvement projects led by our ESP& FCP clinical interest groups. There is also potential to be involved withMSK research projects within CDDFT dependent on your personal interests.

The department has a track record for staff wellbeingsupport following all local CDDFT guidance, you will have access to awell-being hub with the North East & North Cumbria Integrated Care System(NENC ICS) and you can be invited to the North East NHS outdoor wellbeinggroup.

You will work as part of the MSK Integrated MusculoskeletalTeam and will have access to specialist clinical advice from ESP staff viaadvice and guidance clinics. This includes Upper limb, lower limb, trauma,hands, spinal, rheumatology and women'shealth ESPs. You will also be supported by governance and operational leads.

The post holder will accept clinical responsibility of adesignated caseload and organise effectively with

regards to clinical priorities and use of time.

You will clinically support junior staff and students,delegating activities appropriately and monitoring

the quality of care given via clinical supervision,mentorship and audit. Full training can be provided via local universities forstudent supervision / coaching and CDDFT provide preceptorship training,together with day to day support on site for local processes.

CDIMS has a robust intranet physiotherapy site which isconstantly developing which provides guidance on all local MSK pathways, protocolsand evidence based leaflets for your use as a resource.

Assistants band 3 staff are available at all sites tosupport with rehabilitation of patients, you can refer/ delegate forindividualised care for supervised exercises by providing a plan or protocolwithin a gym or department setting.

You will have a named ESP supervisor who will support yourpersonal development plan and the appraisal framework. CDDFT support protectedsupervision time which is led by the supervisee for your individual needs.Pastoral support / wellbeing meetings are also provided within this structureor alternative arrangement can be made to suit personal circumstances.

Shadowing and training is available throughout the fullservice with consultants, A&E, plastics, FCPs in GP practices, ESPs in allspecialities. This is arranged within your personal development plan. Thedepartment runs In-service training sessions together with access to learningon e -learning for health.

CDIMS use SystmOne for clinical note keeping - training canbe provided to suit your individual needs. Test patients can guide you if youare unfamiliar with this System within your induction program. CDDFT provide afull induction program which includes mandatory training together with a localphysiotherapy induction tailored to your needs. Training will also be providedwith all CDDFT ICT programs as required.

You will have access to rehabmypatient program forindividualised exercise prescriptions for your patients, together withevidenced based leaflets on our intranet produced by the teams special interestgroups. These can be accessed in paper form or electronic versions according topatients individual needs.

You will have opportunities to develop leadership skillswithin the department and CDDFT offer training / CPD in leadership.

CDIMS are committed to working collaboratively with the NENCICS reviewing workforce planning and MSK projects.
