The Royal Stoke University Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic individual to support our dietetic team working with patients as they move through our well established bariatric surgery pathway.


This is an opportunity to help our patient's lives change for the better as they lose weight, experience improvements in co-morbidities, physical ability and self-confidence.

We follow our patients through the pathway from their first appointment meeting the team, preparation pre-operatively, immediately post-operatively and then for 2 years after surgery to ensure that nutritional status is optimised and maintained.


The post is mainly clinic based - we run a mixture of face-to-face, video and telephone clinics and there will also be an opportunity to be involved in pre-operative group education sessions.


The post will be based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke on Trent with additional cover at County Hospital in Stafford.

The successful applicant will be working as part of the pre-operative multidisciplinary team and will work closely with a team of 3 dietitians, a Dietetic Assistant, a wider acute team of over 60 dietitians/dietetic assistants and the Bariatric surgery MDT team.

  • Work as part of the Tier 4 Bariatric dietetic team (with direct and indirect supervision) to help prepare patients for bariatric surgery in a range of outpatient acute settings. This may include travelling to neighbouring hospitals or other community settings.
  • To work as part of the multidisciplinary team providing input to Bariatric patients and to liaise with other disciplines and agencies as required in the planning and implementation of patient care.
  • Provide up to date, evidence based nutrition and lifestyle information and intervention.
  • Utilise skills in behaviour change to negotiate change and empower service users to make dietary and lifestyle changes.
  • Source and utilise recommended resources required in relation to nutrition education.
  • Communicates appropriately with a wide range of patients. To communicate and process complex and sensitive information to and from patients, carers and multidisciplinary team.
  • To be involved in Multidisciplinary Team meetings, stakeholder meetings and patient reviews.
  • Has a role in the coordination of the service, this will include administration, answering queries from patients, health care professionals and the industry to ensure that patients receive a timely and appropriate service.
  • Collects and collates information as requested by Dietitians. This may include patient information to monitoring, audit and evaluation of the service.
  • Participates in various audits and projects, which promote Bariatric surgery and Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Liaises with medical, surgical and nursing staff, Allied Health Professionals, caterers and other professionals involved in patient care.
