  • At Leonardo, we have an opportunity for a Product and Technology Lead (Radar Systems) to join our team in Edinburgh. Leonardo is a global leader in defence electronics and delivers mission critical systems for situational awareness, electronic warfare and surveillance across land, sea and air.

Working within Leonardo's Electronics UK Business Unit (BU), this executive level vacancy is for a Product and Technology Lead (Radar Systems) that offers an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to take a senior position in the Chief Technology Office (CTO) within the Radar and Advanced Targeting Line of Business (LoB).Reporting to the Head of Capability - Radar, this role is in the Capability Management function of the CTO which supports future business by guiding the development and implementation of the best product and technology strategy across the airborne radar product portfolio, which covers both Fire Control and ISR radar families.

You will have the opportunity to provide innovative solutions to our existing and future products, ensuring the technology and products of the business are aligned to the capability required by our customers and the business strategy.

As the Product and Technology Lead you will work closely with Business Development, Engineering Leads, as well as other leadership roles and functions within the business to ensure that the strategic aims of the business can be met by growing business capabilities and guiding future product offerings.

Security Clearance-
What you will do:
  • Manage and account for the PV budget relating to allocated radar products
  • Develop and deliver the anticipated product and technology value from the investment
  • Develop the route maps, product plans, and business cases for current and future products
  • Lead the development of the capability strategy within the above product IPTs
  • Contribute to business winning as a key member of the team, leading in the creation of technical solutions during bid preparation and customer engagement
  • Support the Sales organisation in assessing markets, identifying future key customers and securing new business through technical intimacy with customers
  • Foster innovation culture within the business area, encouraging the generation of IP within product enhancements and/or future products
  • Management of IP generated as part the product development lifecycle

What we are looking for:

  • Degree educated, or equivalent, with career experience and a proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with international customers and partners, UK MOD and/or other ministries of defence
  • Experience should be from the defence or defence related sectors, with some background in radar systems, where engagement with public sector and large international organisations is the norm
  • Successful track record at a management level delivering leadership and strategic vision
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills
  • Ability to be a key member of a team to successfully deliver quality output during highpressure bid and customer response activity
  • Demonstrable experience of contributing to the broader business agenda including commercial decisions, operations, and customer delivery
  • Effective and flexible communications skills, capable of confidently briefing to senior stakeholders across industry, government and the military
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Able to provide effective delegation, management and coordination of business activities
  • Excellent problem solving skills and initiative with the ability to think laterally
  • Required to make frequent visits (including overnight stays) to customer facilities in the both UK and overseas
  • Occasional requirement to work to extremely tight deadlines
