We are looking for Senior Mental Health Practitioner to work in our Liaison Psychiatry Service in Torbay Hospital. Working on a shift based (including weekends and nights) you will play an essential role in providing 24/7 specialist mental health services to those who need them.

Based within Torbay Hospital, you will become part of a multi-disciplinary team providing assessment, referral and signposting to appropriate agencies that deliver recovery-focused care for people with complex mental health needs.

You will be a strong confident and capable senior mental health practitioner capable of making decisions that change lives. This post is a fantastic opportunity for the candidate to gain experience and undertake training and development opportunities to help them establish a strong career within an award winning mental health trust. We welcome those with a nursing, social work or occupational health background to augment the skills and knowledge of our current team.

Main duties of the job You will be responsible for taking the lead for mental health services in Torbay Hospital and making decisions that affect lives.

It will be your job to make specialist mental health assessments, and devise interventions that will help people to recover. You will play a key role in a dynamic multidisciplinary team, working with multiple agencies on a daily basis.

You will be confident working with the knowledge to devise individual recovery plans for the people you see. Its important that you can communicate effectively, not only with your team colleagues but also our professional colleagues within other disciplines across the hospital, with the community mental health teams and with the people you care for, their families and carers. .

You will be an experienced mental health professional with a professional mental health qualification (RMN, CQSW / ASW, BSc/Diploma in OT, SROT)

  • Desire to develop and promote learning, specialist skills and knowledge appropriate for the service.
Experience Essential
  • Knowledge and experience of acute mental health issues within working age and Older adults.
  • An understanding of the Care Programme Approach / Local Mental Health Care Pathways / Mental Health Act / Mental Health Capacity Act & DOLS requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to engage with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems.
  • Able to produce accurate, concise & well written assessments.
  • Able to prioritise work to reflect change in needs.
  • Able to work collaboratively with clients, carers, relatives and associated professionals, to ensure safe and effective outcomes.
  • Evidence of working as an autonomous practitioner without direct supervision.
  • Ability to assess risk and action appropriate responses.
Desirable
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of professions from various settings.
  • Awareness of community structures and social care options and processes.
  • Understanding of recovery principles in Mental Health.
  • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively within a busy team.
Qualifications Essential
  • A professional mental health qualification eg: RMN, CQSW / ASW, BSc/Diploma in OT A current registration with a professional body ie NMC, Social Work England etc.
Desirable
  • Post graduate qualification relevant to specialism.
  • Mentorship qualification.
