It is an extremely exciting time here with the implementation of a new senior management team devoted to providing service excellence and supporting our staff.

The Ixworth care home has recently undergone renovations and is perfectly situated, nestled in the Suffolk countryside close to the towns of Bury St Edmonds and Thetford

The beautiful village of Ixworth provides amazing scenery, offering a tranquil and peaceful setting for the residents.

We are looking for an experienced cook to join our team.

Hourly Rate:
£ per hour

Hours of work can be discussed but we are looking around hours per week. With some availability to work every other weekend (this can be discussed)

Job Purpose:
To provide well balanced and nutritious meals for the residents, following all food safety regulations.

Main Duties:
Prepare menus for the residents considering the content, balance, colour, and nutritional values,


Prepare and cook meals and snacks following the pre-set menus and resident choices in accordance with Health and Safety Regulations to ensure meals are nutritious, appetising, and meet dietary needs.

Consult with residents on a regular basis to ensure that their needs and choices are being met.


Be responsible for carrying out and recording all health and safety checks in the kitchen and food areas including checking food is in date, labelled correctly, fridge, freezer, and food temperatures.

Follow all health and safety and environmental health regulations reporting to the manager any necessary action required.

Ensure the security of the kitchen and storerooms is always clean and maintained to provide a safe working environment.

To implement and maintain an agreed deep cleaning schedule for the kitchen.

Maintain high standards of hygiene.

Ensure your own personal hygiene and cleanliness is of the highest standard.

Comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and other relevant Cephas Care policies and procedures.

Keep accurate records.

Attend training courses as required.

Any other duties, which may be reasonably required of you, as identified by the Residential Manager

Knowledge & Skills

A Level 2 qualification in Food Safety.

Knowledge and understanding of environmental health regulations.

Knowledge and understanding of health and safety.

Knowledge and understanding of infection control.

Knowledge and understanding of healthy eating.

Ability and commitment to work as part of a team.

Reliable, flexible, and motivated and work from own initiative.

Ability to do relevant health and safety checks and keep up to date records.

Experience

Proven competency in nutritionally balanced menu planning.

Residential care home experience

Experience of providing healthy, well balanced nutritious meals.

Stock control.

Working within a budget.

Experience of working to Health and Safety regulations.

Experience of working to COSHH regulations.

Some previous cooking experience in a commercial kitchen.

Hours are 9am - 6pm weekdays and weekends - we are looking for cooks to cover these working shifts, so 2-3 cooks required depending on the applicants availability


The cook will prepare meals, have the responsibility for the day to day running of the kitchen ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- prepare and cook meals and snacks following pre-set menus in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations to ensure meals are nutritious, appetising and meet dietary needs.

  • Undertake simple stock control, reporting goods to be ordered to the relevant senior staff to ensure adequate supplies are maintained.
  • Undertake the cleaning of the kitchen and surrounding areas and also of equipment to ensure the kitchen is maintained to a high level
  • Ensure the security of the kitchen and storerooms is maintained at all times to provide a safe working environment.
  • Attend training courses as required
  • Ensure your own personal hygiene and cleanliness is of the highest standard
  • Comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and other company policies

  • You will need to be able to work well in a team a liaise with other staff, volunteers and residents.
  • To respect and care for all residents as individuals, ensuring that their personal choices and preferences are respected and that individual dignity is respected at all times
  • To perform delegated tasks as instructed by the Home Manager so as to promote improvements in service and maintain continuity of care.
