Yeovil, Somerset, United Kingdom Somerset NHS Foundation Trust Full time
Senior Support Worker, Home Treatment Service (Band 4) - Mental Health - Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust – Yeovil, Somerset

This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Home Treatment Service in Somerset

Due to additional funding, we have developed a First Response Service in Somerset, to provide telephone support and triage to individuals presenting in mental health crisis. This new team will sit under the umbrella of the Home Treatment Service and will work closely with the Home Treatment teams, with staff being able to spend time working across both services.

This expansion will develop capacity for the Home Treatment service to provide additional treatment and care to patients at home, as an alternative to hospital.

This exciting Band 4 post provides opportunity to work across both services and contribute to the provision of acute community mental health care in Somerset.

As well as taking pride in caring for our patients, we also prioritise caring for our colleagues. You will be part of compassionate teams who understand the challenges that arise when working and the importance of supporting one another through these.

The postholder will:

  • Work with other members of the Home Treatment Team within the First Response Service to provide urgent triage and brief intervention to those experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • Work with registered staff, seeking advice and guidance as required
  • Work with other members of the Home Treatment Team to ensure that the Team is accurately informed about progress with treatment and recovery of individual patients, who include both in-patients and those taken on by the team for home treatment. This will include attending and actively participating in training sessions, team/care plan review meetings and supervision as appropriate.
  • Support patients to engage with their agreed care plan by working towards agreed goals through regular and consistent support. This includes delivering evidence-based approaches under supervision e.g. graded exposure for anxiety, behavioural activation work for depressive disorders and other conditions, and promoting emotional skills for patients who experience dysregulation.

The postholder will have:

  • Vocational Level 3 / NVQ3 level qualification plus short courses or relevant experience to diploma level
  • Level 5 foundation degree and/ or extensive experience relevant to this role

As an organisation, the NHS offers a wide range of benefits including flexible working, pension contributions, market leading annual leave allowance, continuing professional development and regular informal conversations around career progression, annual recognition awards to celebrate and recognise our colleagues achievements throughout the year and not to mention our Blue Light Card and NHS exclusive discounts.

We work hard to make sure that inclusion is part of everything we do. We know that true inclusion means we're able to provide the best care for our patients and provide a fulfilling career for all our colleagues.

The benefits of working in Somerset include the idyllic countryside, with our areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines. You will get to enjoy these perks whilst still only being a stone's throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London – there is truly something for everyone

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable.

We have six active and impactful colleague networks. These networks provide a safe space for colleagues to share their experiences and learn from one another, but also influence change across our trust:

  • Multicultural Network
  • Women's Network
  • Armed Forces' Network
  • LGBTQ+ Network
  • Lived Experience Network, for colleagues living with disabilities
  • Autistic Colleague Network
