Freelance Summer School Tutor

Hours: 10:00-16:00

Head of Learning and Participation

Fees:
£861.15 per week


This role involves planning and delivering four 75 minutes sessions per day for different age groups, designed to inspire and provide fun opportunities for young people to play, learn new skills and make friends.

Class sizes are up to 20 young people and tutors will be supported by class assistants.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum Development:

  • Plan and develop a curriculum of ageappropriate arts and education activities for 614yearolds.
  • Ensure that activities are fun, engaging, and designed to stimulate creativity and curiosity.
  • Work towards a sharing at the end of the week where participants showcase their work to parents and carers.

Activity Delivery:

  • Lead four 75minute sessions per day, delivering a variety of arts and educational activities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and exploration.
  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management and monitor behavioural standards.

Inspiration and Motivation:

  • Inspire children and young people by providing highquality arts education practice.
  • Encourage a love for learning and creativity through your teaching methods.

Materials and Resources:

  • Ensure that all necessary materials and resources for activities are prepared and available.
  • Support the Head of Learning and Participation to ensure risk assessments/ registers and any other relevant paperwork is completed for your activity and returned promptly.
  • Respond to correspondence from your line manager or any other member of core staff in a timely fashion

Safety and Well-being:

  • Prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all participants.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines and be prepared to respond to any emergencies or incidents.
  • Report and record any issues surrounding safeguarding according to the Wac Arts Safeguarding Policy

Communication:

  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding program activities and updates.
  • Provide feedback on participants' progress and engagement.
  • Make your line manager aware of any issues or complaints
  • Act as the face of Wac Arts for participants, parents & guardians

Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other tutors and program staff to ensure a cohesive and wellrounded Summer School experience.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to program planning.
  • Attend meetings and training as required

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Skills and experience

  • A minimum of a level 3 diploma or equivalent; relevant education or training in education, arts education, participatory arts or a related field is preferred.
  • Specific expertise in the relevant discipline with demonstratable experience of delivering creative workshops in this discipline.
  • Experience working with young children, especially in an educational, participatory or arts setting, is essential.
  • Strong creativity and the ability to plan and deliver engaging activities.
  • Ability to design activities which meet the needs of a broad range of needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A desire to inspire and provide fun opportunities for young children.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs and interests of a diverse group of young people.
