As Detective Sergeant within the investigation Team you will be expected to lead a team of CT investigators to manage National Security cases from intelligence development through to Prosecution and beyond.

You will often perform the role of a Deputy Senior Investigating Officer.

The investigation function of the Counter Terrorism Network is integral in reducing those national security risks and falls within the Pursue element of the national CONTEST strategy.

Responsibilities

• To manage a team of Detectives and Police Staff in the investigation process of serious crime and critical incident investigation. Allocate actions for completion; ensuring priority work is completed against specific time limits.
• Review and monitor the performance of Detective Constables and Police Staff to identify good practice, development needs and ensure that individuals are completing tasks to achieve the SIO's investigative strategy.
• Liaise and consult with internal and external partners to achieve the aims of the investigation, achieve a successful prosecution, improve performance, deliver training and disseminate best practice.
• To ensure staff Identify intelligence gathering opportunities to progress investigations to a satisfactory conclusion.
• To ensure staff compliance with PACE, CPIA, RIPA, ECHR.
• Setting and improving standards of staff through the PDR process to achieve CTPSE priorities and objectives.

Required knowledge/skills
Essential

• Successfully completed the initial or foundation CID training course.
• Proven knowledge of serious crime file preparation, disclosure and court processes.
• Experience in gathering intelligence.
• PIP Level 2/ CID Foundation course.

Desirable

• Recent experience as a team leader for serious or complex investigations/Supervisory skills.
• Knowledge of specialist support units.
