London, Greater London, United Kingdom SOAS University of London Full time

Job title: CAMHRA Research and Development Officer

Department: Anthropology

Contract Type: Permanent

Grade: 7

Salary: £41,317.29 to £48,481.29 per annum inclusive of London Weighting pro rata

Location: Bloomsbury

Hours: 17.5 hours per week

SOAS University of London is the leading Higher Education institution in Europe specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East. SOAS University of London is positioned to play a leading role in reimagining higher education globally, with a new strategic plan in place as the basis for the renewal and revitalisation of the School which commits SOAS to both student responsiveness and research intensity. SOAS is moving towards a new model of international partnerships which is responsive to the transnational character of our global challenges.

About the Department:

SOAS is a global university in the heart of London's vibrant university quarter, with a more diverse staff and student base than virtually any other in the UK. Our scholarship spans the arts, humanities and social sciences. Our expertise is deeply and uniquely rooted in the political, social, economic, historical and cultural dynamics of Africa, Asia and the Middle East and their diasporas, which collectively account for over three-quarters of the world's population. To expand on this world leading excellence, SOAS has been awarded nearly £8million by Research England to establish the Centre for Anthropology and Mental Health Research in Action, CAMHRA.

Launching this autumn, CAMHRA, is a globally oriented and locally connected Centre of excellence for cutting edge anthropological research, education, and public engagement in the field of mental health. It works to promote research on critical issues of inequality in access, experience and outcomes of mental health care with benefits for marginalised groups in the London area and cascading effects at national and global levels, and with special emphasis on mental health lived-experience and clinical practice-based research, and coproduced research outputs.

About the Role

To establish CAMHRA and to enable its leadership team to deliver on its objectives, we are now recruiting for a Research and Development Officer. The post holder will work closely with the Centre Manager, Director, co-Director and other key members of the wider leadership at SOAS to identify, bid for and manage research grants and knowledge exchange initiatives. With the directorial team, the post holder will horizon scan for opportunities in the research, impact, and knowledge exchange areas, and work with CAMHRA staff to develop research bids. They will be responsible for the management of the CAMHRA seed corn fund, including application processes and administration, and ensuring return of investment and bidding plans as a result. They will also work with the directorial team to build partnerships with research councils, philanthropic and commercial funders; and work with the policy and partnerships officer to develop partnerships with relevant research and knowledge exchange partners under contractual agreements.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join an expanding team with a global reputation for excellence. The Directors are seeking a proactive individual with demonstrable strengths in managing complex partnerships and identifying external funding opportunities, who is committed to enabling the Centre to grow and exceed its goals. You can learn more about CAMHRA on our website: Centre for Anthropology and Mental Health Research in Action | SOAS

You can find further information on the key criteria for the role in the Job Description and Person Specification, along with a full list of duties and responsibilities, which can be found on the SOAS website.
