Role Summary

We're looking for experienced software engineers to join our growing team and help us deliver upon our ambitious product roadmap. You'll be working alongside our current engineering team and be centrally involved in helping us build out new features, improve existing, and continue to make SparkLayer a product that customers love to use.

The role will be varied in nature, giving you exposure to a range of technical challenges; from the frontend and backend, through to optimising systems behind the scenes.

Role Responsibilities.
  • You'll be centrally involved in all aspects of the SparkLayer technical solution. Our customer-facing frontend that enables our solution on merchant's store, our administration area that allows customers to configure and manage their account, our API that allows merchants to connect their systems, and all associated peripheral solutions to this
  • You'll be involved in helping us deliver upon our roadmap in all key areas: frontend, backend, integrations and, systems helping continually improve our product
  • You'll be involved in major feature updates (e.g. building out a new feature or tool) through to micro-updates which come as a result of customer requests
  • You'll be involved in helping us evaluate other systems to integrate SparkLayer with, from other eCommerce platforms, to complementary products. This will involve helping with initial due diligence and technical scoping, through to devising a strategy to build and deploy a fully functioning integration
  • You'll be working with the wider team to ensure our product roadmap and customer requests are handled and communicated well across teams and to external stakeholders.
  • You'll be working with our Enterprise customers, where required, helping provide guidance during the implementation process, e.g. how to best use our APIs and customise our frontend SDK to meet their needs.
  • You'll be helping with any customer-related support queries that require escalation to our senior engineers.
Technical Tool set.

Our production environment uses a range of technologies and, ideally, candidates would have pre-existing experience in a range of these (or a willingness to learn)

  • Backend tools include PHP, JS/Typescript and GoLang
  • Frontend tools include SolidJS, VueJS, TailwindCSS and Web components
  • Databases include Postgres, MySQL and Google Firestore
  • Systems include hosting in Google using Google App Engine, Cloud functions, Google PubSub, Google Cloud Scheduler using Pulumi as an Infrastructure as Code tooling
  • Our clients access our REST API, and our frontend tooling uses our GraphQL API
  • CI/CD: All projects are deployed from Github using Github Actions, allowing us to move fast and release regularly (we even deploy on Fridays)
Required skill set.
  • You're a true product builder and can make progress both independently and within a team
  • You're comfortable working with both front- and back-end languages.
  • You have knowledge of multiple back-end languages (like PHP, Go, C# and Python) and JavaScript frameworks (like React, Vue and Angular).
  • You're familiar with databases (like Postgres and MySQL), web servers (e.g. Nginx) and UI/UX design.
  • You have experience with testing and debugging.
  • You have an eye for layout aesthetics.
  • You're analytical and good at time management.
  • You have great communication and problem-solving skills.
  • You're curious about new technologies and you're excited to find ways to implement them in your work.
  • You have experience with coaching and mentoring other developers.
  • You can oversee and drive projects forward.
  • Nice to have: you have an understanding of Shopify and Shopify storefront theme development practices
  • Nice to have: you have an understanding of eCommerce and associated technologies (e.g payment processors, emailing marketing)
