HR Generalist - Payroll & Operational Excellence

What you will do
We are looking for someone special who can support us in the delivery of payroll and HR Operations support.

You will have responsibility for processing a UK and ROI monthly payroll, collaborating directly with our payroll providers, benefit platform provider and advisors and auditors as needed.

In addition to payroll, your speciality area will take a lead in ensuring our key HR Operations processes are compliant.

You will also provide HR Operations support across the full employee life cycle, working in close partnership with our HRBP's and the wider HR team.

You will have a passion for excellent customer service and as a core member of our HR team be an Ambassador for Amgen and our people experience.

This is a visible role working in a small and supportive team.

You will work closely with our Payroll & Process Improvement lead, HRBP's and the wider HR Operations team in addition to working across our UK&I organisation.


This role can offer flexible working options, we do like to collaborate face to face so a commitment to attend our Cambridge site for regular intentional meetings is required and will be necessary while you onboard.

What we expect of you
We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. Part of this role will be to process our payroll independently while managing and prioritising a varied workload.

With a flexible and service orientated approach it is vital that you have solid payroll experience, excellent written and communication skills, the ability to deliver accurate and detailed work in a timely way, be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team and skilled at planning and prioritising your workload to successfully meet business needs

You will have:

  • Solid payroll expertise gained through experience of managing and processing a monthly payroll/s that includes long term incentive planning, statutory payments and tax/benefit processing and reporting
  • Current and up to date knowledge of tax and benefit reporting obligations
  • An eye for detail and able to work efficiently and accurately with data
  • Strong collaboration skills to support effective working relationships across Amgen and with our external payroll vendors
  • The ability to manage a broad and varied workload
  • Proven HR work experience covering the breadth of the employee life cycle
  • Working knowledge of HR policy development and current HR legislation
  • Excellent prioritisation skills
  • Fluency in English, both in oral and written communication
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Powerpoint/digital and presentation skills
  • HR System experience, ideally Workday
Preferred Requirements

  • Post-Graduate HR or payroll qualification
  • Up to date and relevant HR best practices/external network
