Behaviour Support Mentor

Join our dynamic team at Teaching Personnel, where we are committed to providing exceptional support and education to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Mentor to work within our Pupil Referral Unit for students permenently exluded from mainstream education. If you have a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of young people with social, emotional, metal health needs and possess the skills necessary to support their behavioural and emotional development, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students aged 11-16 with SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions, develop coping strategies, and build positive relationships.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and interventions tailored to individual student needs, in collaboration with the teaching team and SENCO.
  • Foster a supportive and nurturing environment within the classroom and across the school, promoting positive behaviour and encouraging student engagement.
  • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour incidents, and interventions, maintaining accurate records and reporting findings to relevant staff members.
  • Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement personalised behaviour plans and support strategies for students.
  • Act as a positive role model for students, demonstrating empathy, patience, and resilience in all interactions.
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities, adapting resources and providing additional assistance as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of a safe and inclusive school environment, promoting respect, tolerance, and understanding among students and staff.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs desirable, preferably within a school or educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of behavioural management techniques and strategies, with the ability to apply them effectively in a classroom environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Resilience, patience, and empathy when working with challenging behaviour and complex emotional needs.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, counselling, or a related field are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
