London, Greater London, United Kingdom University College London (UCL) Full time

About us

The Department of Neurodegenerative Disease is recognised as internationally leading in the study of neurodegenerative diseases causing dementia and related disorders.

The Genetic Therapy Accelerator Centre (GTAC) is located in the Department. The mission of this new Centre is to embed translational research into the basic research and clinical activities of the Queen Square Institute of Neurology. The Centre combines laboratory and clinical expertise focused on neuromuscular and neurological disorders, their mechanisms of disease and includes cutting-edge RNA and AAV gene therapy expertise. The Centre fosters cross-institutional collaborations and facilitate RNA and gene therapy programs.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Senior Research Fellow (Cellular Myologist) to join the GTAC Laboratory under the direction of Professor Francesco Muntoni.

As an experienced molecular and cell biologist, you will develop, establish, and pursue your research programme which is expected to involve both the GTAC and the Dubowitz Neuromuscular Centre (DNC).

In addition to your primary role to conduct your research programme, you will supervise PhD, MSc and MRes students, Research Assistants and Postdoctoral Research Fellows affiliated to the Centre. You will be expected to raise funding for your own research and also carry out collaborative projects with GTAC and DNC colleagues, and their collaborators in partnering academic or industrial institutions, and present research findings at seminars and conferences.

The post is available immediately and funded for five years in the first instance.

If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team ().

Informal enquiries regarding the role can be addressed to Professor Francesco Muntoni ().

For a full job description and to apply for this role please visit UCL's online recruitment portal and search using vacancy reference B

About you

You will have a PhD in relevant discipline, significant postdoctoral experience in cell and molecular biology, demonstrable success in securing funding over a significant period, and experience of working with animal models and/or in genetic therapy using AAV gene therapy, RNA therapy or cell therapy.

The ability to produce internationally excellent, independent research in the field of neuromuscular diseases, and develop your reputation and profile nationally and/or internationally, is also essential to this role, along with strong organisational, communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
