Role Summary: We are looking for amazing Python Engineers experienced in Web Development with Django to come and join our growing team. You will be joining a team helping to support the UK Net Zero objective creating software to help us support Low Carbon energy generation.

You will have various projects to work on, including our Digital Platform for collaborating with Generators, Settlement Systems and Data Reporting services across nuclear, hydrogen and electricity generation.

You need to have excellent knowledge of building applications with Python.

As a Python Engineer, you will be joining a growing team of software engineers As a team you will design, develop, and maintain LCCC's digital platform that comprises of multiple applications including settlements tools, forecasting, digital platforms, calculation engines, data portals, and other applications that the business requires to help the UK achieve Net Zero by 2050. You will be working with project teams covering generation areas such as nuclear, hydrogen, solar, and tidal power.

Key Responsibilities

The key accountabilities of your role are outlined below, covering both the Low Carbon Contracts Company and Electricity Settlement Company.

  • This role is very hands-on with coding so you will need to be comfortable getting stuck in.
  • Build models, serializers and views using Django and Django Rest Framework.
  • Design reliable software solutions to improve functionality and system longevity.
  • Work with technical business analysts and solution architects to fine tune requirements and ensure that wants are feasible and pragmatic and validate development tasks in Jira.
  • Develop modules that satisfy functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Coordinate deployments with Release Manager and monitor for successful integration.
  • Oversee design, build, testing, and bug-fixing activities.
  • Prepare, review and update technical documentation.
  • Build reusable components with coverage tests.
  • Perform code reviews and take part in pair programming.
  • Participate in the maintenance and improvement of existing applications.
  • Contribute to the wider engineering team and help improve development processes.
  • Keep up to date with advancements in application development, analytics, and programming languages.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • At least 3 years' of professional Python experience, specifically with a web development framework (preferably Django).
  • RESTful API development and management, Transactional management.
  • Databases – e.g. PostgreSQL and SQL.
  • Solid understanding of design patterns and relevant implementation models.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps tooling, GitLab, CI/CD, build pipelines and source control systems.

Desirable:

  • At least 3 years' experience with microservices and using related tools – e.g. Docker, AWS, Kafka, Lambda.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure services: compute, storage, networking, hybrid connectivity, monitoring/logging, security and IAM.
  • Experience with data science libraries.
  • Knowledge of other languages (e.g. C#, C).
  • Previous experience in electricity and gas utilities sector.
