An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the Diagnostic Imaging Admin and Clerical Team at Gateshead Health Foundation Trust as a Diagnostic Imaging Navigator.

This role will provide comprehensive administrative support to the imaging modalities across the department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Community Diagnostic Centre at Metrocentre by acting as first point of contact for internal and external referrers.

This is a multi-skilled role. The post holder will be expected to develop and utilise a wide range of knowledge including diagnostic imaging modalities, booking procedures, schedules and waiting list management, and utilise a range of Directorate and Trust systems.

You will work closely with clinical teams, cancer and surgical navigators to co-ordinate and schedule appointments to ensure patients meet all required targets of their pathways, including cancer and RTT.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate with a range of hospital stakeholders and patients in a professional and courteous manner.

It is essential for this role to have good IT skills, have effective organisational skills, be able to work under pressure and use your own initiative to solve problems.

Main duties of the job

To work independently and as a member of the Administration team using initiative, skills, knowledge, and organisation to provide an efficient and high-quality service, whilst dealing with patients and managing patient priority in a caring professional manner

To work as the Navigator dealing with clinical and non-clinical staff, patients, and work other Specialties within the hospital setting to ensure patients receive timely tests/scans and reports

To utilise a comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of hospital and IT systems, including PACS, RIS, Careflow, and ICE.To process and interpret patient information using a range of computerised systems.

To assistwith clinic session booking and to highlight issues to Clinical staff in cases of high demand on clinic lists or gaps in staff rotas.

To follow agreed processes and pathways for resolving enquiries, including clinical, reporting and urgent outpatient enquiries.

To assist with actions arising from clinical session cancellations, including contacting patients

To prioritise and organise own and department daily workload

To demonstrate a range of problem-solving skills to ensure service provision is maintained
