Applications are invited for a full-time (6.5PA) Locum Consultant post in the Department of Renal Medicine and Transplantation at Barts Health NHS Trust to commence from immediate effect for 6 months. The department is one of the largest and busiest in the UK and provides comprehensive whole-pathway renal & transplant care from the hub in Whitechapel to six networked kidney centres.

There is a strong academic tradition within the Centre for Translational Medicine & Therapeutics at the William Harvey Research Institute (Queen Mary, University of London), along with the recently established the Diabetic Kidney Centre in East London. There is also a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching. The post includes chronic dialysis haemodialysis program, specialist IgA and transplant clinic and ambulatory care.   • To contribute to the development and provision of a comprehensive renal service at Barts Health NHS Trust with a focus on haemodialysis, nephrology, and transplantation.
  • To provide evidence -based care for all inpatients and outpatients.
  • To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in relevant NHS guidance and the Care Quality Commission, including the 18 weeks waiting time standard.
  • To participate fully in the management of the Department and to liaise closely with the Lead Clinician, Service Manager, General Manager and Clinical Director.
  • The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • The duties outlined are not definite and may be changed in accordance with needs of the service requiring the post holder to be cooperative and flexible.

Qualifications
Essential
  • MB BS, or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC)

Experience and Knowledge
Essential

  • Widespread broad-based knowledge of all aspects of renal medicine, dialysis and transplantation
  • Interest in building a career in procedures/Interventional nephrology
  • Able to undertake Native and transplant renal biopsies independently without supervision.
  • Higher Specialist Training in Renal Medicine , Experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates

Management/Audit Experience
Essential

  • Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy.
  • Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion
  • Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare
  • Experience of audit management

Research/Publications
Essential

  • Ability to demonstrate personal experience of clinical research and describe and discuss findings and impact.
  • Experience of research, presentations to learned societies on topics related to surgery
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical/surgical problems
  • Demonstrate number of first name publications in indexed journals, over a variety of subjects relevant to this post
  • PhD/ MD Thesis
  • Research experience in transplantation

Personal Skills
Essential

  • Excellent presentational and verbal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and develop medical trainees.
  • Ability to manage time well to deliver objectives of the CAU
  • Awareness of best practice through evidence-based medicine, and personal drive to enact the change with the team
