A wonderful opportunity has arisen to work with our new client outside Peebles working as a Poultry Assistant.

Hours of work

Monday to Thursday - 7am-4pm

Friday - 7am-3pm

Overtime offered at weekends - both days - 7am-12.30pm

Job Summary

Maintain and monitor all aspects of free range egg production in ways that consistently meet organisational requirements.

Scope of job responsibilities

Responsible for the wellbeing of the hen and the production of eggs for the clients' customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain the welfare, health and general wellbeing of the birds according to requirements for production
• Collate, code and pack eggs in ways that meet the relevant health, safety and hygiene standards at all times. Monitor egg quality; identify issues regarding egg quality and take appropriate action to improve egg quality standards
• Check the development and productivity of the birds at regular intervals within the limits of your knowledge
• Identify factors affecting the performance of the birds early and take the appropriate action to improve their living conditions as is expected
• Monitor the behaviors' of the birds, identify any concerns, rectify or report your findings
• Maintain a clean, healthy and safe place to work
• Follow environmental practices
• Ensure all equipment for the laying hen meets the system requirements
• Routinely maintain equipment within the bounds of your responsibility and report defects which need may need specialised maintenance.
• Gain knowledge of the relevant legislation and codes of practice relating to your work
• Assist with the depletion and restocking of poultry units
• Ensure records are accurate, legible and complete
• Interpret the production records correctly and communicate your findings.
• Carry out other reasonable duties within the context of the job and the Glenrath team
